Tribute To A Racer

Hello all.
I spent a couple of hours with my mother-in-law going through a lot of racing stuff yesterday evening in my father-in-law's workshop.
Around 100 trophies from the VSCC and BDC along with some 'rogue' AMOC and JDC trophies as well as some Chelmsford and District Auto Club trophies from 1950-53... he was 17 in 1950 and I suspect these were motorbike trials or somesuch.
Anyway, I brought home with me 4 photos of him in Bentleys and also the 'Ford Vintage Trophy' from 1990. This is awarded to the driver who wins most points in the season in a car DRIVEN to all the meetings. Since I was the fool who got up at 5am to go with him in all weathers in an open car, I asked my MIL if I could be 'custodian' of that trophy...it's on the piano next to me now!!!
Silverstone 1977
Prescott 1978
Silverstone 1979
Silverstone 1997
I hope you like them.
Cheers,

my condolences for your lose
I've attended dozens of August Bentley Silverstone meetings over the years. The variety of cars is fantastic and the skills of the owner/driver/mechanics very much in evidence. This gentleman is a shining example. The club seems to make quite an effort to acknowledge stalwarts past and present in anniversary programmes. The BDC has been holding annual race meetings at Silverstone since 1949. Uninterrupted! I hope your father in law would approve of the sort of activity that is still taking place.
With tears in my eyes and a lump in my throat, I salute both him and you. The last photo proves how human he was too; how many points lost for "dabbing"? There was a family friend of a similar ilk, also a Bentley man, of whom I have such fond memories in my youth. You were so privileged and lucky to have known him, to share his passion and his life.
6 years late but only just seen this thread.
Not glossing over the loss but I always find it very hard to endure prolonged upset when sombody dies after accomplishing so many amazing things. Your tribute is/was fantastic and I'm certain he lives on in memories of hundreds if not thousands of people.
Oh, Bentley on slotties = 100% awesome!

Sad to hear this news, you have my condolences. Your FiL sounded like a great guy, one of those people whom this world is slightly worse off without. I'll consider myself extremely fortunate if I achieve half as much in my lifetime as he did in his.
