Have to say, I've always liked them.

I've always liked a wedge! Although I can see to most that they probably looked a little outdated, certainly the interior fits in to that category for me...

I may as well be the first to throw the 944 into the ring (924 also), I used to think they looked outdated but they grew on me so much that I bought one and now consider myself a serious enthusiast for them. Everyone else now seems to be catching up...

When I was just starting to get into cars I sat in a Datsun 280zx at a dealer and thought it was the most ace thing ever. Pretty soon I realised (read) that they weren't highly regarded and that things like the 944 and the Quattro were where things were at in 1982, and so I scorned them whilst secretly still quite liking them. Scroll forward 34 years and I was at an classic event on Sunday where surprisingly wife and I both decided the car we most wanted to take home (apart from the Quattro) would be a 240z. They're pricey in half decent condition though... But idea the 280zx can still be had for IMO sensible money... me want!!! biggrin

Big straight six, tough mechanicals, wacky japanese alloys, funky gen 1 electronics to keep me busy, looks a bit like a Jarama if you have defective vision – what's not to like? (apart from the interiors which are grim velour-fests)

I think / hope my E34 is getting there... A few years ago you were spoiled for choice with a budget of about a grand but now M5s are over the £10k mark, a good sport is £4-5k and the better cooking models are beginning to follow

Around 1989-90 I very nearly bought one with a Janspeed turbo conversion from a slightly dodgy dealer in North Camp - 3spd auto that only seemed to exaggerate the turbo lag further although the test drive along the A325 was fun, nothing, nothing, full boost and its was off like a rocket - finished in a light blue with red velour interior.

Still quite like them in a naff retro way.

Still minging, IMO, although the colour and that spoiler don't help.

Good thread, though. Here's my contribution, I always thought these were a bit 'masonic golf club day out' but now, well, I love 'em, particularly in a seventies colour like this;

That TVR would beat any one of the other cars listed in any category, handling, speed, fun, smile, admiring looks....and who admires their cars interior when concentrating on the road ahead.

Brilliant cars

Marcus :-)

Agree all 5-years-ago-vile BL palette colours are starting to look awesome, loving the flat olive green, even Allegro-baby-poo and beige are looking good.
Also funny how series 1 cars go through a period of looking old fashioned, then win as the most stylish in the end.

Whereas I think it still looks like a styling mess with badly applied proportions and messed up angles, never liked the "look" of it because ultimately it is a messy design.

...We choose to support our British heritage...Yes they are rough around the edges...Yes they drink a lot ...Yes they are loud...Yes they are unpredictable.....A true Brit in every way....smile

I love all classic cars and still hanker after particular models...And there are some that i wouldn't pi55 on if they were on fire but i wouldn't slag em off just because i don't like them....I would simply say..."I don't like them"...I agree Wedges are not everyones cuppa tea ...But they have given me a new lease of life and in return i help to raise money for crippled children by organising a recognised national and now international yearly event for the cars that i have come to love...The genuine kind hearted interesting people that come with ownership is a bonus.

Some groups who share the same interest in cars are as crap as the cars they have an interest in but if thats where their passion lies than who are we to judge???...Each to their own and all that...So please gentlemen don't slag off the Wedge, There are some of us who really really do like them.....

Thanks

Perhaps it is how it has been photographed, but that looks a little high at the front to me.
