Whatever it is it looks like it could be the answer to that long running thread trying to determine the ID of a small car in the back of a black and white picture!

Interesting. The DVLA database has no ASHLEY models listed, and the reg returns no tax or MoT records so it's been off the road a long time. In fact, where did that data come from?

One of the less-gruesome kitcars for Joe DIY to build from a rotten sidevalve Ford Pop in the late '50s, early '60s.

It does, but the DVLA system depends on you knowing EXACTLY what make the vehicle is registered as.*
In this case, it is "ASHLEY SALOON 1172".
To find details from a vehicle's registration you need to put it through http://www.cartell.ie/ to get the make before using the DVLA vehicle enquiry site.

*This is the reason that https://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/ is so spectacularly inaccurate.

That's a handy site, I'll bookmark it.

On howmanyleft, if you type 'Jaguar' or 'Lotus' or whatever into the search box, it prompts the different models. I realise it isn't accurate due to data errors but can't find any Ashley at all. The auction website lists it as a Ford!

It's a shame the photo isn't better, as it did look like it's been laid up for a long time !

Not even that. There is no make listed. That's down as the model.

I once had a dark green Ashley 1172, same back end view as the Sportiva, but with a slightly re-styled front-hinged bonnet. Not so many around, the design - tweaked somewhat - went on to be used for the Reliant Sabre (and the Sabra).
