I wouldn't think that there are many relevant tips about what to do if caught up in a plane crash involving an Airspeed Ambassador. The last Ambassador flew in 1972 and there are no airliners of that era around these days.

I once met the Blanchflower who survived the crash - I saw him when I was a newly qualified doctor, and I asked him about his severely damaged knee - he casually remarked "Oh, I got that in an aircrash many years ago". I felt such a fool when I later realised who he was.

Far less was understood about the effects of ice on wings and slush on runways back in 1958. In fact, this accident caused certicators of airliners to include snow and slush tests in new airliners certification tests before they issued a Certificate of Airworthiness to a new type of airliner.

Also, at that time, most British airline aircrew were ex WW2 era RAF or Royal Navy so they had a far more independent "press on" atitude compared to the more "corporate" pilots of today. Captain Tain lost his job - many say unfairly, over this incident. I think BA (the modern successor to BEA) eventually exonetrated him of all blame - after he had died, unfortunately.

Unfortunetly the Man Utd fans weren't that nice when The plane carrying the Leeds squad in the O'Leary era just managed to avoid crashing on take-off. In isolation the song is sick, it is unfortunetly only part of the "banter" between BOTH sets of fans.

Of course I never saw Duncan Edwards or any of that era play in the flesh, but my dad told me he was head and shoulders above anything else on a football field. An old time version of Gazza in his prime - only better.

Captain of England at 19 or something wasn't he - or was it just playing for them?

Could head, kick with both feet, tackle, lead a team, score goals - who knows how great he would have been ...

Terrible shame.
