Knowing how good you guys are at thinking out of the box, let's see what you do with this one.

A friend has a field that used to form part of his house. Planning permission has been rejected as it would result in extending the village !! The field is approx 1 acre with little areas for parking (other than in the field itself). Ground is fairly rough but probably no more than your average village park.

Any good ideas for how to get an income from it.

Thought of horse grazing but it would require putting up a new fence and bring in approx £35pw. Too small for a boot fair. Caravan storage would attract the local gypsies.

A serviced dogging site?

Put up a few trees for privacy, onsite cleaning facilities and hot and cold beverages. Perhaps even a photographer to charge for photos.

How about grass tracking racing circuit? No need for parking, let them turn up in their bangers and drive them home again...

an acre isn't exactly a lot of room for any form of motoring activity, bugger all in fact. I'd stick to grazing or other avenues!

Get elected onto the local council, get yourself planning permission by promising the building contract to one fo your fellow councillors, then sell the new building to the local council at an inflated price. I accept that this is very much a thumbnail sketch and in reality you'll have to pass a few more brown envelopes around, but you get the general idea.

How about a mini farm-based theme park? You could have some pretty gnarly sheep rides, or something

Or turn it into a small holding with a few ducks and chickens, maybe a sheep or 3.

Then apply for permission for a dwelling for the farmworker.

Wait a few years, let the "farm" die off, get the permissions changed, sell as normal house.

Dig a hole and build in the hole. So long as it isn't 6 feet above ground level, I don't think planning is required biggrin

Grazing for horses is usually cheapest outlay,
Less fencing than for say, sheep or goats, just some water for a trough and away you go,
Normally an acre per horse as a rough guide.

Field Rage, bit like Cage Rage but in,er, a field.

Saw it on Sky recently, basically you mark out a circle in the field with bales of hay and then people batter the cr@p out of each other for a 'purse' of £50.

Divide it up into 1x1 metre squares and sell them on the internet along with a fake lord of the manor title with each square. Ensure that you advertise this heavily in America for best results.

He could just wait and keep resubmitting the planning permission every year until they decide that its actually not going to increase the size of the village that much and planning for a modist bungalow would be ok.

If you didn't get permission to build, there's no way you'd get permission to run anything motor related on it!

Otherwise a great idea.
