I loved watching Ian's videos, especially this one summing up 'A Year In The Life Of A PistonHeader'

Video

A lovely tribute to what PH is all about, and what Ian was all about.

RIP

Gary,
I've just watched this video with several tears in my eyes. It really sums up what being a PHer is all about and Ians life as a whole.
The soundtrack is especially moving and it's one I shall not forget!!

Totally shocked. Ian was always so jolly. You couldn't wish to meet a nicer bloke.
Our condolences to Gus and family.

Completely shocked by this

Ian had only sent me a couple of personalised vids from the London Tunnel Run a couple of weeks back.

I'm not sure if this is appropriate or not but if his family are OK about it should be have a PH presence at his funeral? I'm sure that's what he and indeed most petrolheads would have wanted?

Wow. It says something of the man that I'm still dealing with personal e-mails.

I will see that every comment is passed to Ian's widow at the due time.

There's just been an interesting programme about the universe on TV and I couldn't concentrate on two sentences, such is the cumulative power of PH.

So many comments say 'I didn't know Ian but...'

When my time comes, if I get a tenth of the response I'll feel I did something useful.

There is a big hole in PH, not to mention PHEA, and it will never be the same again.

I last spoke to him on Sunday and he was his usual cheerful self. He sent me a DVD on Monday. On Tuesday he was gone.

We will be there to pay our respects.

I didnt know Ian or the circumstances of this tragedy, but the news has made me feel very sad that a fellow car enthusiast ended up in such a situation that they feel there is no way out other than this.

As someone who lost my father due to illness when I was 21, I really cannot imagine what his wife and children must be going through now - the death of my father was devastating to our family, and we didnt have to rationalise or wonder why it happened.

I really feel for them and hope they find a way of getting through this terrible time.

Regards
Paul

Ian sounded like a great man and seemed highly respected by all.

I never knew him personally but I know it is people like him who make PH such a great place to be.

My deepest sympathies go out to his family and friends. I hope they have all the support needed to get through this tragic time.

RIP Ian.

I never met Ian, but knew him purely from PH. Many condolences to his family, and all who knew him. I've only just caught this thread, and was shocked to hear it. It's testament to his character that so many people, who only knew him through an internet forum have reacted so well.

Having met Ian a few times during the PHEA meets I found him to be a kind welcoming gent who made old and new PHer's welcome at any event and meeting. His friendly face and character will be missed by those that new him and by those who he should have met.

I can only say that I have also been moved by the response of fellow car enthusiasts by the loss of Ian. All our thoughts are with Ian's family,

RIP Ian

May I also add my amazement at the amount of people posting in this thread, with a marked number not even having met him in person!
Ian, you've touched many a heart, and you were clearly a much loved member of PH
Just makes this all the more tragic
