Couple by Jethro Tull for consideration - Black Sunday from 'A' and Locomotive breath from 'Aqualung'.

Then there's the whole of 'Jewel' by Propoganda which serves as an intro to 'Duel'. Think BBC "Rally Report" from the 90s, can't have that on in the car or I try to do opposite lock around roundabouts .

Finally a quick mention for 'Hallowed be thy name' by Iron Maiden.

Ah ha, I know ...I have a winner, can't believe it's not been said yet....

"In 1972 a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire the A-Team."

For a spoken word intro, Frank Zappas 'Watermelon In Easter Hay' is brilliant. The tune, an instrumental, is fab too. The man was genius.

easy.

ZZ Top - Brown Sugar The sustain on the last guitar note is the work of a legend
ZZ Top - La Grange

AC/DC - Whole lotta Rosie Needs no more.

Pink Floyd - One of these days or Sorrow awesome intros

Basement Jaxx - Don't give up

Ben Harper's Live cover of Voodoo Chile saw him live at the Albert hall in '98 or '99 and this was his encore. (Paul Weller was his support act!!)

But for me probably the greatest intro ever, nay one of the greatest songs ever.......

Muddy "Mississippi" Waters - Mannish Boy, real music at its absolute raw best.

Time by Pink Floyd - for the sheer unexpectedness the first time you hear it.

When the Levee Breaks by Led Zeppelin - Bonzo's drumming plus that harmonica riff

Cross Town Traffic by Jimi Hendrix - Such verve and attack!

Money for Nothing by Dire Straits gets my vote. On a more contempory note the intro to the album 'Hold your colour' by Pendulum is a work of art.
