I misread the title as abolition of bridge trolls and was about to be furious about losing my job. S'ok though.

No e?
Bingo smile
I shall have a wee dram to celebrate my knowledge. Am I allowed to put ice in Islay,?

Now on the thorny problem of the inventor of the telephone, I seem to remember on QI they said that the telephone was not infact inveted by a Scot, but that AGB nicked the idea form someone else.
Trouble is i cant remember who it was meant to have been, and I'm never 100% sure that QI isnt taking the piss.
Some Italian got there first, I think.

Scotland is a client state and is subsidised by England.

None of this has anything to do with some fantasy about oil reparations. As if the scotch could have got the oil out of the ground themselves. They have all the technological nous of the Saudis.

I do believe firmly in Scottish Independence though. i think it would work out well for all. England could mitigate the drain on its economy by allowing the EU to admit the newly independent Scotland and suck on the EU welfare teat and the Scotch could enhance their fantasy that they are somehow independent by printing money that is accepted in more than the occasional Morrisons / glasgow crackhouse.

Scotch is a drink you moron.
Scotch WHISKEY is a drink. Scotch is just a generic term.
Scotch is a generic term for whisky, a drink. You appear to be talking about some other kind of drink wink

No, scotch is a generic term for things from or of Scotland. Whisky can also come from Wales or Japan.

and wales iirc. If you were to ask someone for some scotch youll probably get whisky and not a person which was what I was trying to get across to the troll, nothing more.

Sure, I must try and ask for a whisky in one of the Welsh bars that sell it and see what I get by default. Probably scotch whisky, but you never know.

Always amazies me just how many inventions were by Scotsmen, not being a smart arse, but its a fact, too long to list here, but have a google, its quite impressive.
Very true. It would be just as interesting to list out where most of the inventing took place.

Scotland can have it. I was there on business a couple of weeks ago and the mood in the town is far from happy. The council in their infinate wisdom removed a whole chunk of parking spaces from the main street and have now granted Tesco planning for a new superstore.

The independent shops are dropping like flies.

hehe That is just brilliant. In 7 years on PH I've never seen such a desperate post.

Foreign Premiership footballers are obviously only any good because they play in England, right?

It is not for the people of Berwick to decide in isolation.

To be honest:

I've just spent the past 30 mins out on the balcony watching the sky here in the north west Highlands. Tolls or no tolls - some places are great to live and some places are crap.

I lived in London for 30 years and now I've moved, I see the sky.

End of story.
Yes, but, to be fair...

To put it bluntly...

Well, to ...

You're a git.

biggrin

As for that pratt who suggested tolls down South subsidise the Forth bridge...dear me, what a berk.
Well down South... as in South Ayrshire do via taxes. Strange that the kingston bridge has never had a toll.

I have always been encouraged to shed a tear of sympathy for those that exist on a lower moral and intellectual plane than myself. Therefore I'll bear you in mind.

On the other hand, if you can stop breathing long enough to do some research, you will find many a reference to "Scotland" and "Wales" in EU literature - this is because they are considered EU Regions, not countries. "England" is depicted as nine (or so ) EU Regions. Indeed, the part of Kent I live in is lumped in with Calais.

I wonder how much of this is down to the new toll booths that theyd just finished on the forth bridge being in the wrong place and maybe having to be knocked down and rebuilt if they were ever going to use them long term.

Ive just had a horrible vision of the queues if th kingston bridge had tolls! eek!

And your point is?

As for the 'shedding a tear' thing, well thats just weird.

That was pretty farcical. I'm sure there were plans to eventually replace the toll booths with overhead GPS readers, or cameras or suchlike for charging, but I'll be damned if I can find any reference to it now.

That was hilarious seeing that.

That new spur / junction is chuffing excellent though. Well, as much as traffic planning can be exciting anyway biggrin
