The item must say 'I love you' but in a friendship way not anymore, becuase although we have ended up in bed together it aint like that!

...C'mon mate, surely you can do better than £100. I think all over Britain, every PH lady collectively rolled their eyes...

I have a Mont Blanc fountain pen, pencil and the slim diary sized pen. My fountain pen was a 21st birthday present from a bloke in circumstances not unlike Vixpy's; we're still friends today, even though he's in Bermuda - the lucky git!

Oh and he also gave me a pebble with a carved design on it (cue laughter) and send it with a card that said; "I'll be around until this wears out". (awwwww)

Edited to please the spelling pedants.

How about a clown pendant ? It's tasteful, discrete and will always remind her of you.

Elizabeth Duke should do the trick, you'll probably have enough left for some hooped earnings and a track suit.

Vixpy,

Buy a nice piece of antique jewellery. It is not more expensive than modern stuff, but usually much classier and shows more thought and taste. Women love the idea of old jewellery as it has the posibilities of an old romance connected to it...

Maybe a broach, or a pendent?

Why not get a mould of something in silver. They can do it for baby's feet for new borns... maybe you could get a baby's arm.... holding an apple?

Ah blast, perhaps a pen and a dictionary would've been a better gift.

How about an antique brooch. There are some beautiful art deco styles about.

Avoid second owner Opals though (thought to bring bad luck).

Or maybe a piece of Lalique glass.

Could a jeweller make a replica charm of your/her profile?

yes....one of the best examples of marketing ever...initially was either DeBeers or Tiffanys (I really should remember!) as the first opals out of Aus, and into 'court jewellery', caused a HUGE surge of interest and excitement. Having spent much money and time wooing peple to the joys of diamonds, they weren't about to let that go and basically started the 'opals are bad luck' rumour.....and it's stuck to some degree ever since. marvellous!

pendants are a good idea as previously mentioned - does she wear white or yellow gold jewellery mostly? That is often something very important!

gifts like pens and glass tend to only be of real interest if the person realises they are - if that makes sense. a pen is a pen as far as Im concerned....

Tiffany....hmm...will leave personal views about their jewellery quality aside......it's fair to say that ladies do like their stuff.....its kinda hard to go wrong if you buy a tiffany item (again depserately struggling not to write a half page rant here!)

cheers

I'm sorry and I have no desire to offend anyone who has some, but I hate Tiffany with a passion, mass produced, overated cheap c@@p, and now being worn by chavs. I prefer Cartier or Gucci.

Not jewelery as womens tastes can vary considerably.

A book of poetry, you will also be able to write something suitable inside, you could look for a first edition classic.
You know, that is a fantastic idea.

I'll have to remember that for the future!
