To be honest:

I've just spent the past 30 mins out on the balcony watching the sky here in the north west Highlands. Tolls or no tolls - some places are great to live and some places are crap.

I lived in London for 30 years and now I've moved, I see the sky.

End of story.

Scotland isn't even a client state as it isn't a state.

It is locked firmly onto the welfare cash teat of England yet it has enough political latitude to pull these kinds of stunts.

As a result I am a staunch Scottish Nationalist.
Just fade away. This may well be the only reply you ever get so do make it worthwhile.

I've moved from the North of Scotland to southern England. There's plenty of sky here too.

What a predictable reply from someone with no idea.

I was born and brought up in London, but moved up here 5 years ago. Apart from the weather, Scotland is a virtual paradise compared to living in the South East. Far more sensible Government, who actually seem to respond to what the electorate want (Compared to Westminster MP's anyway) less traffic, better roads, friendlier people, scenery that takes your breath away and slightly more sensible house prices.

Shaq, your jealousy just makes you sound like a bitter muppet.

Yes, but, to be fair...

To put it bluntly...

Well, to ...

You're a git.

The Dartford bridge and most others in England still have tolls to support the abolition of tolls in scotland.

Transport is a devolved issue to scotland. In England it comes under the British Parliament.

Yes but they get cash from England to help pay for it. Plus they don't have half the world's poor turning up looking for handouts.

Let's all move to Scotland, get the free tolls, free care, free prescriptions and when your population hits 70,000,000 see how it looks then...

Sssshhhhh, don't bloody tell them!

He's lying, it's all fog and rain up here, with no decent driving road in sight. All rutted single track stuff that you need a landie to get over. Not the kind of place for fast cars, not at all biggrin

Free bridges in Scotland, free prescriptions in Wales, if they want independence etc, let them raise and manange their own taxes/budgets.

So who are the stupid ones? Those that live in Scotland and Wales and take advantage of free prescriptions or toll free roas. Or those that live in the South and whinge about "subsidising" the Welsh and Scots, whilst convieniently forgetting that we pay the same tax up here as people down south. If you don't ike how the Westminster politicians spend your money, do something about it. Don't just whinge because Scotland and Wales have better systems.

If parts of the country should be treated on how much money can be raised, why isn't London an independant state? London contributes massively to the exchequer compared to each and every other part of the UK. So going along with the idiotic logic being displayed here it should be seperate and the rest of the country cut off.

One last thing. You may live in England, Wales, Scotland etc. but we are all British. Or do you want to open the can of worms that is the "English Parliament" nicking Scottish oil?........ It goes both ways.

We are trying to do just that in Plaid Cymru.

By the way it's free to use the Bridge from Wales to England. £5.50 to get into Wales. Strangely enough the Welsh see none of this money.

Ditto Wales, but even though transport has been devolved to the Welsh Assembly Government, I doubt we will see this happening in Wales due to the Severn Bridge also sharing a border with England frown

Forth Bridge was already well paid for and funded out of road tax.
The tolls were separate and profit making for someone.
So no change to anyone else paying for it.

Same story with the Erskine Bridge (which caused me to be very confused first time I crossed it with no toll, not knowing they had been removed).

You know, I dont really support Independance, but I have to say that I'm glad the SNP are here to give Labour a bloody nose these days. Good on em, I really wish em well until they, too, become fat lazy & complacent.

I love this:

However, environmental group WWF Scotland said the scrapping of the tolls would only add to the global problem of climate change through an increase in traffic levels.

Acting director Dr Dan Barlow said: "On economic, social and environmental grounds there is simply no justification for scrapping these tolls.

"The extra road traffic that will be generated will cost the Scottish economy, increase local pollution and push up climate change emissions."
Yeah, because the thought of saving £1 a day really contributed to my decision of wether or not to go to work each morning. rolleyes This decision just saved me £250 a year (though I'll probably lose some of that in some new tax rise. like, say, 2p on a litre of petrol).

Cos we built it wink
Luckily the bridge I take to get to work in Wales is free.
Usually under water, but free.
