Whether you think he's annoying, a dickhead, or what, I'm sure you'll all join me in wishing him a speedy recovery.

Not least so we can take the piss and laugh at his crash without all that pesky guilt.

Best of luck to the chap, says me. Here's hoping that he gets nothing more than a severe headache, some good footage and a lot of piss-taking from Clarkson and May.

Of course, when my brother stacked my old Metro into a barn 10 years ago, he wasn't quite so lucky. He wasn't going 200+mph (more like 50mph) and came out with a few bruises, a cut on his face and recurrent epilepsy that has made a real mess of his life.

Still, if he does recover, it will make great TV. If he doesn't, that'll be the last you'll see of Clarkson and co. for a while... Anyone remember "The Late, Late Breakfast Show"?

Good luck to him, I think he's a TG essential. Does sound like a slightly, er, risky thing to be doing, but that's irrelevant now, hope he pulls through allright.

spun out at 60mph once and that was scary. Loosing it at 280mph must has been terrifying. Seemingly hes conscious and talking, so that a good sign if true. Hope he pulls through 100% with no long term problems. He will get ribbed immaculate by clarkson and may if he gets aways with it.

I'm hearing that he is not conscious now (although this may be an induced coma due to possible head injuries, given that he's in a neuro unit)

I have to say that the signs aren't encouraging right now

Bummer. I actually found the Clarkson/Hammond/May treble act quite entertaining, too. Hope its not as serious as the 'critical condition' reports suggest.

...and while it's a trivial consideration compared to Hammond's wellbeing, it's unfortunate that the accident will undoubtedly provide ammunition for the anti-car brigdade who want Top Gear taken off the air.

BBC have got some News 24 bumf up, just reeling off the same details.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/no (video link on RHS)

The BBC crew on site said that he walked away from the crash and put himself in the air ambulance, but that the hospital have confirmed his condition as "critical".

Odd confused

Possibly not - any swelling and/or bleeding on the brain doesn't necessarily kick in immediately. Could be days later apparently.

Come on hamster, get well soon.
Top gear wouldn't be the same without the Hammond/ Clarkson debates. Hey, he bought a charger, respect to the guy purely for that!
