I got one when I was 19. Dragon on the right shoulder. I don't regret having it done, per se, as I spent a year thinking about it and choosing a design. However, it IS just flash, rather than a custom design. No matter how much I liked the style and image itself, I could have got something more personal if I'd thought it through a bit more.
I'm starting to toy with the idea of having another one though, some 15 years later

Middle of the chest hurts like a bitch..
Ouch! Can imagine!Either way, I'm blissfully ignorant and will be getting it anyway!
Personally I would liken the worst pain to feeling like a razor blade being gently tugged through the top layer of skin...if it was only stuck in a couple of millimetres...
But saying that...the top of my arm didn't feel more tan a scratch.

hmmm, same as me then (excpet I'm a little younger ) I would definitely advise against a tattoo done as a spur of the moment thing, you WILL end up regretting it. I'm starting to toy with the idea of having another one though, some 15 years later
I wanted one at 16, I waited and thought about it, and decided at the age of 32, that if I still wanted one after 16 years then I wasn't going to change my mind. I now have 4 tattoos, each of them picked by me, two of them are personal designs, and yes one of them is very distinctive, I only know of one other woman in the world that has one like mine, but hers in in sihouette and mine in full colour. It does make publishing anonymous pics on the internet a problem as I would be easilly identifiable!
As to after care, Bepanthlon (or whatever its called) the nappy rash cream is what is being currently recommended for after care creams. And the other thing....do no pick the scabs!

Stoopid skin jewellery that you will one day think, 'what was i thinking..' i know this as i had a large tat on my upper arm in 1984, thought i looked the dog danglies, now i just groan and look away whenever i glance it.
Obviously some will still love their tattoo's when they fade and droop, but is it worth the risk? Why would you want to wear the same piece of jewellery for the rest of your natural??

I'm not sure what I think on them, but it always raises an interest debate. The fact that some people are very judgmental on them still makes me wonder why take the risk? Nobody discriminates or holds a strong opinion in relation to those people who do not have tattoos.

go for it, as long as you can cover them for work/weddings/funerals etc then cover your body in tattoo's.
both arms half sleeved, chest, back sides, stomach etc, get it all inked
I know a girl with the word DAVE tattooed on her left shoulder. It could clearly be seen at her wedding. To Andy. both arms half sleeved, chest, back sides, stomach etc, get it all inked
[crestfallen]One of the boys on the stag night asked Andy if he ever thought about Dave when he was shagging her from behind.[/crestfallen]
I have 2, both personal designs and then drawn out by an artist friend.
The shower thing is boocks, if you do find its getting very itchy, mine on my back did, snd the only thing that cured it was wetting the area around it with cold water and the blowing a fan on it.
If you are getting one done under your arm/down your side make sure you don't spray deoderant on it, it will hurt.
As for the pain when you are getting it done mine hurt for about the first 5 minutes and then my body numbed it out and it just felt like something dragging on my skin but it differs for everyone.

Generally, in life, people who are judgemental tend to be considered quite ignorant - for me this hyper-negative attitude to what someone else wants to do with their own body is the epitome of ignorance. I love to take the time to explain why I got mine to people who are genuinely interested but I have no time for defending myself to anyone.
If you don't like them, I won't spend one second of my time convincing you otherwise so (not aimed at you Phil) do me the courtesy of not trying to do the opposite.
I have two, one a personal design and the other my daughters name. Both are on the top of each arm so can not be seen when i visit customers are even in a short sleeve t-shirt.
Once you get inked you will want it again. I would like another but the wife does not like them.
My only advice would be the same as above, keep dry for a period of time and make sure you use plenty of Savlon. The stuff they sell you as being the "proper" stuff is shite!
