Is it just me or at no point did the OP state that having a tattoo made you look like a chav?
was the point of this topic not to be about funny or just peoples normal tattoo's?
not who likes them and who doesn't.
I have one, everyone was surprised when I got one on my 18th but to be honest I dont even realise I have it anymore. Its sorta like having big ears you get used to them. why does it need 4 pages of debate!

This is always the way tattoo threads go on here, spiral totally out of control

thing is if you were to just pluck 1000 people with or without tats off the street of london they would probably fall into the same category.
Odds would be lessened....Neil_H said:

I stand corrected i took time to read the whole post and seen chav-branding!
That was only in reference to her particular tattoo, some of my best friends/ family have tattoos and not all of them are chavs.example
Its like wearing trainers lots of people do but certain types are chav/ned ones.

lol@people who point out tattoo's will look crap when your old.
I'll be more concerned with not crapping myself and not dying rather than how fashionable my ink is when im 85.
I have two (meaningful to me) PLUS the "NO CPR"/"Do Not Resuscitate" one over the heart which, I hope, will prevent my getting to the incontinent/drooling stage!I'll be more concerned with not crapping myself and not dying rather than how fashionable my ink is when im 85.

Why get tattoos on your body at all?
EFA.Don't get them at all myself, I can just imagine them all sat round in the nursing home when they're 80 with unreadable saggy blurs.
However I did think about how they would look when I was old but then I realised I would be old and not give a st!
To be honest, I don't know that many scantily clad, fashion conscious 86 year olds as it is, I think most of them are happy with their lot and live day to day.
Don't think they're particularly worried about what's on the outside of their bodies, more whether their brains and hearts are still fit and active, don't you think?
ETA One of my tattoos reads 'Sua Cuique Voluptas', there are other reasons for it, but I always find it appropriate when these threads arise.

I call bullst on this one too.. Photo evidence, or it didn't happen. If everyone had to back up their posts with evidence then PH would be the quietest forum on the internet

Bertie while you sit in the corner, we'll all be having a laugh trying to recall what and why we had tattooed on our bodies...Far more interesting than your basket weaving
Each to their own, I just don't like them, it's personal choice though.By the way, where did I mention I was into basket weaving?

I had my sons name put together in kanji for tattooing onto my right shoulder. I did a bit of research to check the kanji came out correct, and then had it confirmed by colleagues (I was working at a Japanese company when I had it done).
But with any of these foreign characters its way too open for abuse by tattooists who don't really give a st.
if its your sons name, and I presume he is English speaking, why not just get it spelt in English. Whacking it down in china town aint giving it no more cred than a dad turning up to pick him up from school in a Vaxhall Nova with 21 inch spinnersBut with any of these foreign characters its way too open for abuse by tattooists who don't really give a st.

That's the main thing I don't get.
People who get tattoos are usually getting something that they only appreciate currently, without fully understanding it will stay with them FOR LIVE.
So all these people with "fk society" and pictures of 'the finger' are going to look like absolute idiots when they're sucking dinner through straws in the old folks home.
Hmm, bit of a sweeping statement, I've got three, first at 18, second at 21, third at 25. All were designed by me as a reminder of who I was at the time. Still look at my first, 8 years later, and remember my opinions, tastes, etc.People who get tattoos are usually getting something that they only appreciate currently, without fully understanding it will stay with them FOR LIVE.

The whole point was to remind me when I'm old and crinkly of how I've changed and (possibly) grown through the years, so I don't turn into an old fecker who thinks anything different to my opinion is rubbish, to remind me that almost everything in life changes, and to attempt to not to get stuck in one mode of thinking.
There are as many reasons for getting a tattoo as there are for any important decision, and just like any important decision, some people think it through over time, some people go with the first or easiest option.
My tattoos also help remind me that everybody's taste is their own, and therefore who am I to judge as long as it has no effect on me?
First-timer advice please. As part of my mid-life crisis (divorce, forced house sale, inappropriate relationships with younger women, TVR, etc.) I want to get a very simple tribal/Celtic design on my thigh. I'm guessing that a simple design actually needs a high level of skill (less is more, all that) and I'm not finding websites very helpful so I would like to find a well-recommended practitioner to chat it through with - does anyone have any recommendations of good people to talk to?

Why? I just dont understand this sort of stuff. If you want something to remind you of your son why not just carry a nice picture of him in your wallet?
