Cool plane, but I hate that colour scheme.

Not keen on the colour scheme either but at least it means its flying ...
Coolest plane though has to be ...
Went to Duxford last weekend and actually touched the one they have in the American flight hanger, BEST. PLANE. EVER.
Sad I know, but had to as its hardly cordended off and you can walk all round and under it (Although you have to duck to do that as its quite low)
Stood inside the wheel bay of the B-52 as well, not sure why.. maybe because I could. Quite an impressive set of hydraulics going on there.

Maybe we can get McDonalds to sponsor an SR-71 and get one airworthy again.
It would be foolish to belive that they are all grounded. Whilst sat's can produce the same quality (or better) images you have to wait for them to be in the right place at the right time... and anyone with some brains knows when and where they'll.
My personal theory is that they grounded and musemed a few of the older airframes then upgraded the systems as much as possible on the newer ones... which are currently roaring over NK and other trouble spots.

saw an SR71 up close and personal in NY, on the parked aircraft carrier near 11th st(?) Mazing bit of kit....lots of other amazing planes on it too and bits of actual space capsules and all! Loved it.
Superb exhibition. HMS Intrepid in NY, its a must see.
Thay've got Howard Hughes UH 1 Huey there.
Charlie don't surf
There are no flying SR-71s. They don't need them. Apart from the satellite systems and the U-2s (all the TR-1s have been redesignated U-2Rs), the US military now have a range of "robot" recconaissance aircraft such as the Global Hawk which can perform the tasks originally alocated to the SR-71.
