BG, you've never eaten rocket salad with grated cheese, strips of bacon, and olive oil?
Lardons, flash fried, then croutons added to soak up the olive oil and bacon fat, all poured out onto some leaves so that the hot oil wilts them, then crumbs of roquefort on top. Its devine, but it aint no salad!

Or mixed salad with haloumi cheese, feta in garlic olive oil, cherry tomatoes and southern fried chicken?

I'm getting hungry now...

Small chunks of pineapple mixed in the salad will pick up the taste.

Makes the rest of the food look good. Not too bad tasting neither, with a bit of mustard salad dressing.

I remember the first time I ordered a salad in the UK. It was in a pub just outside Warwick castle. She brought me a plate full of lettuce the type I'd never seen before.

With nothing on it.

When I asked for dressing, she looked at me funny and then brought out some mayo.

So yea, if I lived in the UK, I'd say salads sucked to.

I watched Martha Stewart Living this morning.

She taught me how to toss a salad.

I reckon South Africans have the right attitude towards salad.

After living there I realised that what they call salad we would call garnish

Just like the salad I had for tea last night wasn't really a salad

Dressed, as it was, with a raere steak, a plate full of chips, onion rings and a fried egg

I usually ask for "No foliage".
That way you sometimes get a bigger portion of the 'real' food in order to fill the plate.
