Buccaneer given permission to fly again in the UK
Discussion
Definitely a Canberra. I wasn't disputing that.
The current RAF scheme is a tan colour called "hemp" (not very attractive actually). The remaining T4 (as already mentioned) was repainted in PRU Blue to mimic the scheme worn by the prototype at the time of its first flight back in 1949.
One of the other privately owned Canberras flying in the UK retains its final "service" colour scheme of white top fuselage with dark blue lower fuselage separated by a thin red stripe. This is commonly referred to as "Rasberry Ripple" and was/is the standard colour scheme of test aircraft used by the RAE/DRA/DERA/QinetiQ and or the A & AEE at Boscombe down.

The RAF ones are definitely still stuffed to the gills with top secret recce gear.
During the initial Afgan bombing campaign there was a shot on SKY news of a F/A18 diving and releasing a lgb. However for a split second in shot (it was well "zoomed" was a pair of contrails with a PR9 at the end. It was well high but you could still make it out. Real time uplink anyone???
The "blue" one recently acquired by Air Atlantique was the one training version remaining with the RAF.
Yes it is with almost disgusting haste that these aircraft are sold off, it's not the RAF's fault it makes sense to get as much money for them asap as the RAF's strapped just like the rest of the sevices. (But get they don't get to see a penny of the proceedes though)

Thanks Eric, I wonder what he was doing around here? quite an unusual sighting. Although I did see a Vampire some years ago believe it or not..... and you do see modern types crossing from time to time........
Mainly the area is crossed by commercial jets en route for a landing at Liverpool - Speke airport.
When the Burtonwood base was still operational as a storage facility. They excavated beneath the base and moved the soil by night only in covered lorries for quite some time. I myself directed an articulated lorry one morning down the narrow lanes to the base......he was carrying an aircraft wing...
For months after that, Chinook helicopters flew in from....MMmmh, I recon the direction of N Wales (maybe Anglesey) ferrying in supplies..
It was the main European storage base of course at that time......
The control tower still stood for years...although I think it's now gone, but some of the old WW2 hangers still remain even now ...used by other companies.

Yes I believe that they are still a most capable aircraft.......I hope that we can at least look forward to seeing them fly for many more years..
That one has just completed a lengthly overhaul and has only just taken to the skies again within the last month or so.
The T4 arrived about November time.
If you look in the news section there is a video clip of the B2(6)

39 (1PRU) still operate 4 PR9's from Marham in Norfolk.
