Ebay scammer - a little success

I reported an 0 rated new ebayer to ebay for a scamming offer on a car sale I have on ebay.

I also replied to a question from the scammer & let him know what I'd done

He then replied to me using a yahoo address.......


Which I duly reported to yahoo.......


Who have made special investigations into the user of the account......


Information contained within the users account has been reported to the police


So if you get a scammer, keep em talking to get any info out of them, pass that info on & hopefully they'll nail the b******ds

its often because people can't be bothered to report these things that nothing gets done.

i'm looking for a canon xl1 cam at the moment, and the amount of fraudulent ones i come across is a joke but i report each one. so far i have had 7 canon xl1s removed from the listings, and that was in december alone! :-)

i have got so sad, that i actually recognise the photographs that are being continually recycled.

Sorry for bringing up old news, but how did you get on reclaiming the cash?

I've just bought a sky+ box and payed via paypal. No e-mails from the seller and I've found the exact same box from the same seller listed 5 minutes after my auction ended.

Obviously, e-mails sent off etc but if there's no reply by tomorrow, it'll be reported to ebay and paypal.

Just another thought - this second auction ends in an hours time. Should I place a bid and win this one aswell, but not send any money. Should I use the same account, or my wifes account to buy it, incase he cancels my bid?

Quick replies required folks.

update to say my thinking is at the moment: use the wife's account so he doesn't know it's me. Bid on auction and win it, rediculous amount to ensure I win. Ask for his address to send a personal cheque.

The seller may have quite a few of these for sale. I bought an ADSL router off ebay and the guy had them up on a weekly basis, but I had no problems with him. If you have only just won the item then give him a day to reply, he may just be busy.

I won the item on the 17th at 15.20. It was classed as used.

He resubmitted an identical item, classed as used, on 17th at 15.25.

I smell a rat.

I've had no emails from him at all despite me sending him three asking for confirmation of the sale.

can't you claim your money straight back through paypal? if he's taken it out of his account it will be a debt from him to paypal, and it will be the baliffs for him, not you...

look into it, I'm sure you can do that... I think it has to be reported to ebay first though.

I might do that Dave. I think i'll still get his address from the missus account - I don't care if that account gets negative feedback, it never gets used.

You never know, I might win it for less than the original auction

You can request his address though ebay. It sends you his address and also sends him an email saying you've been informed of his address.

The amount of idiots who keep listing very expensive watches when they are brand new and have no feedback is becoming very irritating indeed.

Ebay really need to do something to prevent these fraudsters.

Perhaps someone here can clarify something - I thought you had to have your credit card and bank verified defore you can create an ebay account and start buying or selling.

If that is so, how are these people able to keep registering new accounts? They can't all be using fake or stolen cards and addresses can they?

Is it safe to sell a car on ebay? What do you need to look out for, in terms of scammers?

It's perfectly safe to sell a car on ebay - I put my first TVR up on ebay.

Just put a line saying anyone with less than 5 positive feedback must contact you before bidding, and that you will take legal action (and have before) against anyone winning but not paying. Further, you require a deposit by Paypal or cheque within 48hrs of end of auction.

Offer people the choice to view before the auction end.

Then put a line apologising to all the honst ebayers, but the amount of idiots means you have to be strict. All legit ebayers will fully understand.

When you have sold, make sure you are paid in cash or bankers draft/building society cheque.

The first and most obvious thing is the African who sends you a cheque for double the winning bid price and then asks you to send the balance to his shipper.
Apparently people still fall for this one.
Also make sure all funds have cleared (at least 5-7 days)before letting the car go
