Reports are coming in that an RAF C-130 Hercules has crashed north of Baghdad. The wreckage is said to be spread over a wide area.

Sounds bad.

Hopefully it is empty as they can carry quite alot of troops when full.

It won't have been completely empty, that's for sure. I think they normally carry a crew of up to 6 if carrying loadmasters etc.

At the moment no details have been released as to what the aircraft was doing, how many were on board or whether it was one of the new C-130Js or one of the older C-130Ks.

Towman - never a truer word was said in jest.

In fact, apart from Christmas Day, today was the first day since November when I haven't done some work.

Yeah. Sorry to all. I've been responsible for making this thread light hearted, when the original subject is so serious.

Sorry

Wreckage over a wide area means break-up or explosion in mid-air.

I can't imagine they'd let a bomb get through security, so my bet is a ground-to-air missile.
