Mum in law is planning on taking my son, who is 7 to relatives in sunny Germany. My wife and I are happy with this as he is as safe with her as he would be with us...

However, does anyone know if she needs to take a letter of consent with her from my wife and I..or is there some sort of consent form via customs or something.....

Anything to declare madam.....well yes, a small boy

If you haven't already get an E111. This is the form that allows UK Nationals to get medical treatment abroad. Also, don't forget travel insurance.

You might also want to check the law of consent over there - just in case - God forbid - she has to give consent for medical treatment - she might need some sort of letter from you to say that she has your permission to make decisions in your absence.

Don't forget "Family E111 forms are no longer valid. Individual forms are the order of the day now, still available at your local friendly Post Office.
