Oh well, it was a dead cert that Labour were going to with the election, even before the opposition shot itself with internal squabbles.

Old Tony must be laughing his socks off and planning Tax rises which he could only have dreamed of just a few months ago when the truth about Iraq emerged.

Me, I'm off to The Bahamas.

....trouble with the Bahamas is HURRICANES and shit roads.

Know where you are coming from though.

Perhaps we should seriously resurrect the PH Party thread of a few months ago and put up a candidate in the constituency where there are the most PH members.....little job for Ted that one!

Tories haven't shot themselves, it's a politician with self interest who has shot the entire party.

At what point he thought he would not cause troubles is past me.

I could live with that, when considering the upside! No New Labour.
No miserable, drizzly weather.
A sensible Tax regeime.
A laid-back way of life.

Ahhhgggg ... I can only assume that during the day between "resignation" and the withdrawl of the whip it had become clear that Flight was going to act like a tw@t. I find it very hard to believe Howard hung around for 24 hours then picked up the phone and said "and another thing, you can't be an MP anymore ... hahahaha". In any case, however badly he may have been treated, and however hurt his feelings are, Flight ought to have had enough loyalty to the Party to shut up until after the election. The amount of mileage the BBC were making out of this yesterday was apalling.

Opinion poll after the event saw M one point behind T.
No implosion. Down more now? Then back up soon. There's no right time but this has happened at the right time.

Isn't there still a rather large smoking gun hanging over nu labia? The legal advice on Iraq was leaked / admitted to try and defuse any similar impact on voters but some gunpowder remains dry elsewhere apparently.

More time out (in the far east) beckons here at turbo towers but I still want BLiar out as it's criminal what he's doing to this country.

I honestly don't think this will make much difference. Most people have made up their minds which way they are going to vote by now - this is just silly little piece of mole-hill house keeping mountain-sized by the Blairite media, who are sh1tting themselves. I think, if anything, it will strengthen the Conservative position.

But I'm usually wrong, except on the issue of metal detectors.

There is no chance the Tories will win. I watched Oliver Letwin being interviewed earlier and he was absolute rubbish. Basically, if the shadow cabinet are not savvy enough to run an election campaign, what chance do they have in running the country.

Sad but true.

As for metal detectors, the party that bans them on the beach gets my vote regardless.

Agree in principle, but there are other bodily fluids at work...srebbe64 suggests that the Tories have imploded, but it looks more like the Biased Bull5h1t Corporation has climaxed.

Well, let's hope they've climaxed early.

In my heart I don't believe the Conservatives will win... but there is hope. Evil does not always triumph...

That's just about the only thing I've got in common with the Labour Party!

Never talk down the Tories prior to an election. They may be shite but they're the only hope we've got.

Here's to whatever they can manage! Even if they lose - I hope they gain enough to really trouble Labour and put the kybosh on anything really offensive...

The Tories didn't have much hope before the election campaign began.

They have run a reasonable effective campaign-let down a bit by this plo*ker-which of course the pro Labour media(BBC) etc is making the most of.

The result has always been a foregone conclusion in any case.

Good point. Haven't labour pretty much got themselves a majority in the house of commons if they put a three line whip on a bill. That and the parliament act and they can basically pass anything they like.

At the very least if a few more seats fall into Tory hands this riding roughshod over the public opinion may start to ease.

Out of interest, don't the normal rules of employment count for politicians?

In the world that I inhabit you can't just fire someone instantly, unless there's been gross misconduct. Equally, you can't force them to resign, as that's deemed constructive dismissal. As such, can Michael Howard (effectively) fire someone, by withdrawing the wip?

Howard has so fd up its unbelievable.

He's sacked Flight for saying at a private meeting what most tories believe and hope to be true. Fine, sack him from his job but to throw him out of the party is ridiculous and turns what should be a minor internal issue into a major one that will run and run. Crass in the extreme. He's also in dispute with the local party in Slough for parachuting in a candidate that none of them want.

The Tories were never going to win in May anyway but this will cost them a few more seats.

At a time when we have an appalling and highly unpopular government the opposition should be forging ahead. Instead we have a party led by one of the most uneletibil (sic by design) politicians ever that will in all likelihood lose further seats in May.

The only winners here are the equally dreadful Lib Dems.

We need a new party of the right and we need it now.
