Trousers – how the hell do you iron the bastards? Shirts, jeans, knickers, socks I can manage but this one’s got me stumped. Normally I dry clean them and they come back pressed. I’m getting ready to go out and have some pure white cotton trousers I’m trying to iron (I’m going to a Miami Vice fancy dress – not!). The lower legs are easy but once I get above the knee… folds, gussets and creases all over the shop! I’m lost! Help!

You seriously iron these?

Best way i found is to just grip the trousers at the ankle end and put the seams inline, then lie them on there side and flatten away, well it works for me

There is an easier way....

Our cleaners do all our ironing for us.

There are ironing services out there....try one.

Life is too short.

Go out on the pull tonight....See if you can live the impossible dream....
you get a gorgeous girl back to yours...she says;
"I'll do what ever you want me to..."

Present her with your ironing...

I hope you have better luck than me.....They have either left or refused point blank......one day

Thanks for all the replies GUYS! I guess all the women are in the bath rubbing their feet with pummis stones or something.

Anyway I think I’ve got them about as good as I can.

To answer your questions:

I can iron most things but this is the first machine washable pair of trousers I’ve had. Normally they just go straight to the dry cleaners.

No I don’t normally iron socks and knickers!

I’d love get someone in to iron them but I am currently wandering round the lounge in my boxers and a shirt with people screaming down the phone at me asking where I am.

Anyway it was worth the effort. I now look like a Supafunkster… or is that a c**t (I always get the two mixed up )?

Right I’m off out now till approx 9 am

I now only wear clothes that do not need ironing, so my ironing pile stays low. Trousers are a pain in the neck no quick answer there I'm afraid.

I find that by ironing them inside out first the pockets don't get in the way.

Most garments will have washing and ironing temperatures listed on the tag. Obey the temp requirements on your garment! Iron the top of the trousers (waistband, pleats, pockets) first, then do the legs. Slip the top of the trousers over the end of the ironing board and iron the waist band, straighten out the insides of the pockets, iron those flat, iron the pleats (smoothe out the material at the top of the pleat so that it makes a little crease, and iron it). The crease from the pleat just has to be at the top. It doesn't have to line up with the crease on the legs. Rotate the trousers around the ironing board and iron the back. Be sure to smooth out the pocket material in the back pocket so it will lie flat when ironed. Next do the legs: line up the side seams so that the creases will be in the front and back. Iron one leg at a time, otherwise not enough steam gets through all the layers of fabric.

I don't iron ANYTHING!!! It all goes in the tumble drier(which does take out quite a lot of creases), then straight in the wardrobe, ready to wear.

You could try joining the Army. I did. Ironing was the only useful skill I emerged with.
