Mobile phones – latest and greatest?
Discussion
Time for a new gadget. Had my k700i nearly a year now and can’t say I’m overly impressed with it. Should have stuck with the Nokia 6310i except that’s a bit of a brick nowadays. I’m on Orange pay monthly.
So what’s new and cool out there? I need Bluetooth and GPRS. Don’t want to go 3G until they sort out roaming in Europe. Is there anything sexy in the pipeline? Should I put it off and wait for a new handset to come out?

im not sure if it is out yet as my dad works for voda and got it as a prototype a while ago. but teh new sharp one is really an amazing phone.
the version i have seen is a special voda/ferrari F1 version that is red.
that is a normal version.
i have no idea what it would cost. but i would say that it is the best working phone out there at teh mo.

Currently have the Motorola V3(black), the 02 XDAII, the 02 XDA mini and a couple of the classic Nokia 8890s. If only I could update the software to enable long SMS and get the ring volume turned up a bit I would stay with the 8890 forever.
Still waiting for Nokia to deliver a range topper that actually does something. The new 8800 looks sweet but doesn't do much. They are going to charge an arm and a leg for it too me thinks.
Sleek, beautiful, small, great interface....? Nokia don't seem able to do it anymore.
I always have an eye on this site for the new stuff. http://asia.cnet.com/reviews/handphones/

Nokia 8800 is a fantastic phone; I'm just waiting for mine to come as we speak. Just wish they'd made it in black! Feature-rich (camera is not megapixel though) and plenty of memory.
Nokia N91 is pretty good, although a little bulky, and Motorola are bringing out some interesting phone's in the very near future (V6 PEBL and V12).
If you're wanting to replace your phone right now, from a high street retailer, then you can do a lot worse than a Samsung D500. They have bags of features and pretty decent battery life compared to previous Samsung models. The camera isn't as good as it's cracked up to be (it's 1.3 Megapixel isn't as good as the 1.0 Megapixel of, say, the Nokia 6670) but it's still perfectly ok for snapshots.
Other phones to look at would be the Samsung E720 (similar functions to D500 but in a clamshell phone) and the new Nokia 6230i (great camera).
The Sharp 902 has a 2-Megapixel camera, although it actually doesn't perform any better than the 1.3-Megapixel camera's around. It's also quite a bulky phone and doesn't have a great menu system, so I'd (personally) discount the Sharp.
If you want any further information or details about any particular phone, just email me via my profile.
Regards.
Adam.

i'm just waiting around for the Samsung D600.
Was due to be launched Q1/Q1 2005, so hopefully it won't be to much longer.

As no-one else has mentioned it I'd add the Sony Ericsson s700i ... top phone ... but it really depends if you want to go up to 3G or not ... s700i is about the top of the range in 2G.
As far as I could tell when checking around for a new phone SE or Sharp seem to be about the best around now.

I got the s700i, but find it very bulky. Good for impressing the girls though when carrying in my trouser pocket....
D500 for me
Got bored of waiting for Nokia to bring out promised new models.
