I am in two minds. I would like to watch, just like any concert, but my head is telling me I am being exploited by doing that. My wife says we should watch it because it raises 'awareness'. I think I will just be massaging the egos and boosting the record sales of people who don't need that.

I won't go into the debate about the rights and wrongs (ben done to death), except to say that if Sir Bob (who I actually admire greatly for his passion and persistence) and his frinds wanted to make a real difference they should have stood at the general election 7 weeks ago like everyone else with a burning issue and a committment. If it means so much to them that they will give up a whole a day, perhaps they should stand for Parliament and cut down on the pop career. Or am I being, as my wife says, a miserable old git.

I'll be watching....due to the fact i'm at work and the chance of any customers is slim and there will be fook'all else to do......except PH of course!!

There is an interesting trend that when 'big' TV events are on ie Live8, the world cup etc we become busy with complete numpties.....for example just as Englands first match kicked off in the last world cup...in walks a bloke with the line "I new you would be quite because of the football so thought you would like to take me out in a few cars to kill time"

edited...to say I know that is a condradiction but numpties aren't classed as customers in my book they are strokers

I think I agree with you here, the publicity around it has maybe shifted peoples attention to the cause but how watching it can raise awareness beats me.
Like the people interviewed on TV the other day with tickets who said "I'm going along so I can do my part in fighting poverty"!!
Er No!!! Your going along to watch a free concert with acts that woulod otherwise have cost a fortune to go and see.
The acts who are giving up their time to perform will unboubtably see a large increase in their album sales over the next few weeks as well.

Mcartney playing Sgt Peppers for the first time since it was recorded on vinyl (its never been played since) and Floyds first gig since 1994.

You'd have to be hatstand to miss it.

Yeah, should be good in some parts. What they should have done though to really benefit the world is ship Bono somewhere to help out if he cares so much, rather than give the c[censored]t more free publicity. If he cares that much why does he not chuck some of his millions their way?

I would argue that it's Floyds first gig since 1980

I'll watch that bit, but the rest of the time I'll be mainly laying a floor in the loft.

Bono is one of the reasons Africa is at the top of the agenda at the G8

He doesnt need the money, and as has already been said for the millionth time, its not about money.

The argument that Pop stars should just give up their wealth , thats been peddled on these forums is so pathetic and idiotic, that it smacks of

sheer jealousy.

Jealously of their wealth, but mainly of their significance and what they can do, but people like Bruciebabe...an utterly insignifant nobody ...cant.

And why would it be jealousy? Just because he says it's not about the money doesn't make it all ok. Do you not see the amount of publicity these people get from supporting such causes? I'm not saying Live 8 is a bad thing, or that it didn't raise awareness. For a start, there are some things happening that just wouldn't have if it didn't exist, icluding the music.

Why is him giving up some of his enormous wealth 'pathetic and idiotic'? He has so much that he could never even spend it, why not use some of it for a good cause?

Sounds to me like you're just a fan of the worst band in the world ever and sticking up for your 'hero'.

All 15 minutes of it?

I read today that the local council will fine them £350,000 per hour if it overruns the 9:30 PM deadline.

Very charitable. Presumably the last few acts may get their time squeezed a little.

Or maybe that is just a way of gaining a bit more publicity and for Geldof to take the stage at the witching hour and tell the audience that the council can f off.

That might be worth watching.

I think what they are doing as amazing, it certainly has raised awarness of the problems and hopefully something will now be done about it. This is the modern world now, everyone should be treated equally. Writing off the debts ist going to make a difference to us but it will make a huge difference to africa which can only be a good thing im all for it and it will be on all day!!!
Its not about the money for the groups its about being part of something very special and life changing for millions of people

I agree, but you've got to admit, U2 truly are awful and Bono is a complete and utter tw@t. I mean, suing someone for a hat? For him it may not be about the money but it is certain to add to his ego.

Its set to be a great day of music I reckon.

Amen to that! I totally agree. It's just a way of people like Bono to feed their egos whilst pretending to do somthing good.

I dont doubt that there is an element of ego massage involved in all of this. Perhaps not from Sir Bob but it is fairly apparent that Bono is a little bit more self involved.

However, for what it is trying to do it is succeeding inspite of the personal gain that could be drawn from such an event. Gervais' advert/explanation about the entire affair gets this point absolutely bang on.

9:30?! ... that's a bit crap .. didn't start till after 2!

Bit of a damp squid if you ask me.

I can feel myself being exploited as I type (I have it on the TV now) .. but I just want to watch to see things go wrong like they always do on live TV events.
