Discussion
At the risk of being controversial - will encouraging a huge population explosion in Africa, in addition to the massive population growth already, really help the situation?
Surely the starting point is to stop such large numbers of children being born?
Or is this issue being kind of ignored today?

Agree entirely, just added to a post early. Saying they have too many children, which adds to more mouths that need feeding.
And children dying, as theres not enough food etc.. for them.
A change of attitude within the country is necessary for that problem to be resolved.
A change of attitude comes from education.
Education costs money.

I don't think your racist comment is particularly funny or necessary.

I don't think that was intended to be racist, I think it is sadly pertinent.

Strangly if you take the comment itself, it is true the military controlled govenment of most 3rd world contries seem to be able to find money for arms and yet not for education or food. I presume this is to supress the people.

Thank you.
It is a sad fact that social equallity, those basic human rights as laid down by the UN, down to the plain right to have clean water have been sadley lacking to the majority of the continents inhabitants for so long.
It has been said here that throwing money at Africa is of no use due to the corruption of it's "leaders"
I believe this to be sadly correct as a whole, not withstanding the good that "focused" programs can make.
The only way forward IS through education, not only at the school level, but throughout all the different levels of "African" society. A demanding task indeed.
However, one cannot stand back and just say "ah well" The live8 program is to hopefully kickstart a political agenda ('cos those media aware politcos fear public awareness of their failings more than anything else)in the G8 to lead to REAL LONG TERM change for the continent.
Here's to the future.
MoJo.

Yes Ma'am, you misunderstood the gentleman. What you may not also grasp is that those who support throwing loads of cash, as opposed to throwing out the dictators are exactly the types loved by said dictators. Are you one of these well-meaning but naive people?

No I'm not that naive, and I don't believe the problem can be fixed by only dealing with one part of it. Apart from getting rid of dictators, a national attitude change to is also needed amongst the population.
I don't think anything that is done is going to like waving a magic wand and give us an overnight solution.

well done for haveing the balls to admit you were wrong mrs t
Let us hope that MRS. T will admit to having "gall", but, heaven forbid, balls!
*puts on blue flashing lights*
STOP! IN THE NAME OF THE RACISM POLICE!
You said "gall". Which might be a misspelling of "Gaul". Which is what France used to be called. Especially under the Roman Empire. Which killed lots of people. So, your disrespectful statement, in fact, must mean that you support genocide, you insensitive racist pig! I, on behalf of all of humanity, demand an apology!
