...and why?
The reason I ask the question is this: My family and I travel a fair bit, and some friends wanted to pick our brains. They asked the above question, to which my wife said a recent cruise, followed by Hawaii and then Canada.
I then said five days camping in Le Mans with a load of petrolhead mates. The missus looked a little shocked, but I still maintain that, as a bloke, five days doing "blokish things" (laughing, drinking, eating, washing when we feel like it, wearing comfy clothes, going to bed late, getting up late, watching cars, driving down the Mulsanne Straight, barbecues, red wine, going on fairground rides, and generally chilling out).
So, I reckon it's women that keep the holiday companies in business not blokes.

Holidays, I’ve had enough of the family type holiday to some where in Spain/Greece etc. Next year I want to avoid the traditional holiday resorts & go somewhere quite with the family, kids aged 9 & 7, anyone recommend a quite place.
I'd like to take the family to the Maldives or Seychelles, but are these resorts family friendly???????????

Trip out into the Sahara desert when I was 16ish. Drove down through France and Spain en-route and visited loads of places. Fantastic beaches on the West Coast of Morocco, not that far from Tangiers. Driving out into the desert (2 safari equipped Landrovers with expert drivers/guides/owners). Drove all day into nowhere. Stopped for the night in the middle of nowhere. 5 minutes later this bloke turned up on a pushbike to see what was going on. Where the 
did he come from!!??!! Visited a number of real oasis too. Some where just like you see in the movies. Cool.
Slept in the open for a whole month.
Loved the whole trip.
Won't go back as it'll probably spoil my memories.

You can't beat cruising and I've been hooked for years, a two weeks balls out, got to get home to recover, fantastic party whilst someone else moves the scenery ( not to mention the service( which doesn't move - fantastic the whole time)) But coming pretty damn close is cruising on land, party with your mates - sleep- get in car- drive plenty- see fantastic things - party with your mates etc - Doing it in Spain next year and it's a total blast - see Tour Spain thread....
My wife says the Maldives and it's pretty good it has to be said. Went there a couple of times including our honeymoon.
Best holiday, personally, is touring round France going from hotel to hotel then onto a villa in the south for a week, then back again in a big loop picking up some wine on the way home. It gives you all the good parts of a Le Mans hoon without the discomfort and low WAF issues.
Lots of miles to enjoy feeding to the Griffith, great scenery, weather, food, you know the kind of thing.
Just done this for the 4th year running, already planning to go back again.

Italy, living there for a month while learning the language (in Firenze), in a shared flat, organising "sangria" parties and going around in a Vespa, staying with friends in Genoa, in a beautiful house they had built on the side of the mountain with amazing views on the sea, trekking the Cinque Terre, visiting the most amazing beach in the middle of a natural reservethat could only be accessed by boat by boat, and seeing a good friend I hadn't seen in 5 years. Plus, eating great pizza almost every day, proper pizza, and visiting the most amazing museums.
Tour of Europe in a Peugeot with a mate is another option but it was a bit tiring in the end since we were camping and never stayed in a place more than 2 nights. We did go to a friend's house in France, in Poille sur Vegre, in the middle of the countryside, with a water mill next door where we could swimm - all the river to ourselves, just surrounded by trees.
Tour of Europe in a Peugeot with a mate is another option but it was a bit tiring in the end since we were camping and never stayed in a place more than 2 nights. I once did a 'catholic' tour of Rome at christmas for two weeks.
Needs lots of 'knowledge' to get into some places but mostly down to a bit of planning and a thirst for history and a cynical mind for the politics involved. I'm an atheist BTW.

Otherwise my idea of a good holi is more like going to Scotland for a driving tour/piss up. Or France. Or Italy.

Best for somewhere hot/interesting/dangerous: The Silk Route and the rest of Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan. If only I could scan in the photo of me and some AK toting 'businessmen'
Best for relaxing: honeymoon on an island off Croatia.
Best with mates: week long stag do in Prague before it became the norm to have a stag do abroad.
