I just caught the end of the local TV news, apparently the Eagle shopping centre in Derby wont let the old soldiers collect for the poppy appeal. I just caught the tail end and some manageress talking a load of bollox about how they havent got space and cant accomodate them. I have tried to find the story on the net but not coming up with anything.

If I have understood this correctly, and I havent got the wrong end of the stick. Then I will no longer buy anything from any shop in the Eagle Centre ever again, and I wont even walk through it on the way to anywhere. In fact, If I have understood this correctly, I think I will start a picket at the entrances.

Lisa, do you have the story?

I heard this from an old biddy in the office today..there are hardly any places in derby selling poppies

it's especially strange, because they are all over nottingham and the parts of london I have been in this week

the eagle centre smells of piss anyway

If it wasn't for them the Eagle centre would be the (whatever the German for Eagle) centre.

Still cant find the proper story, been trawling the internet, BBC & Central news.

Surely the media will have a field day over this?

I didnt see the whole story, but passers by were being interviewed and they were all saying it was appalling.

For those of you who dont know the Eagle Centre, its just a big shopping centre with all the usual national stores. Prime place for The British Legion to be on site tin rattling.

I have seen this story somewhere on the net today.

It appears that the shopping centre is undergoing a refit and in the interests of health and safety they've been asked to relocate this year.

Probably over the top decision, but sounds like they story has been blown out of proportion.

Apparently they are in another nearby indoor shopping centre

Oh. So it's safe enough for shoppers to walk through and continue to shop there then, but not safe enough for selling poppies.

Need to get the full story, there must be a better reason than that.

If this is true then it's a feckin disgrace. Just wtf is wrong with this country today? Every bloody organisation seems ready to roll over to appease some whining minority group, yet the people who put their lives on the line to defend this country aren't allowed into a shopping centre to raise some money for the veterans.

Absolute feckin disgrace - these people should be crucifed.

Right, i'm going to have a walk through there tomorrow and see just how little space they claim to have. I bet it will be business as usual, it certainly looked like it on the TV footage I saw earlier.

Think I will be stopping by the manageress's office and making my views known. If I lose my rag, expect to see me on the telly tomorrow night.

Just drive the Bentley through, Blues Brothers style, to prove how much space there is.

Go on, you know you want to...

"Your decision to stop the sale of poppies in Derby is an absolute outrage. My Grandfathers both fought in the second world war as did many hundreds of thousands of others, many of whom did not come home. Whoever made this barmy decision has insulted the memory of those brave men who sacrificed all for the freedom you enjoy today. Shame on you."

That was my message to them. Hope everyone else does the same.

There is also the local link too...

I reckon there will be sufficient e-mails going to Australia for the top level management to want to know WTF is going on in the UK?

I have complained to both.

I can't believe that I was in there today, there is plenty of room for someone to sell poppies.
