Usually where I work, they send an e-mail out about it, and ring the fire bell briefly at the beginning and end of the 2 minutes, but this year there has been no communication, so I fully expect to be observing the silence alone. Even when they do commuinicate the silence and ring the bell, most people ignore it and carry on chatting/phoning/typing, so with no communication this year, we've got no chance! Very sad state of affairs.

Anyone who tries to speak to me or phone me during those 2 minutes is going to get pretty short shrift...

Finnished ours.

Reminds me of a funny story, a few years back my boss walked past one of our very loud fire bells just as it sounded the start of the two minute silence which he had forgot about it. He actually thought it had damaged his hearing as he couldnt hear a thing as he walked across our usually noisy office in silence.

He finally twigged and we had to wait to wait another minute before we cracked up.

Well as it turned out, they did ring the fire bell, but it had no effect on the handful of ignoramuses who carried on chatting, joking, laughing and making phone calls. How do these fools not notice that the fire bell has been rung and the rest of the office has gone quiet?? Still nobody spoke to me or tried to phone me during the silence, so that was a bonus...

My guys observed it but the company didn't send an official announcement this year. They have done so in the past so don't quite understand why this year is different.

After visiting the Allied war cemeteries in France I now always observe it and feel it is my duty to do so. We really don't know how much we owe those who fight in our name.

Utter silence. Not even the sound of a mouse (clicking).

I already like my colleagues - this just reinforced it.

Noticeable while on TV the cameras flicked around various locations, a respectful slience was being observed prety much everywhere, except by the Clergy. They do like the sound of their own voices don't they?

As usual, our lot ask for "respect for our colleagues wishes"...

...personally, I observe it, and many around here seem to. Is it an age thing though?

My office is a mix with the youngest being 21 and the oldest almost 60, myself I'm 29. Past experience though has shown it tends to be the younger generation in companies I've worked for that show the most respect on these occasions.

Yes, that did annoy me. Along with the tt in the shopping centre in Portsmouth - everybody else standing still, him wandering through the crowd.

I was silent on my own at home.

Is it me or has there been next to no fuss about it this year. It's heartbreaking when you think of the hundreds of thousands who died needlessly in God forsaken parts of the globe

I think everybody should have to watch Episode 6 of Blackadder Goes Forth on 11th Nov every year.
