OT: Honeymoon destination

Well it had to happen some time. I'm getting married! and we are thinking about honeymoon destinations.
We are not the type to do all inclusive holidays (last trip was round the world with a rucksack on our backs) BUT... after the ordeal of getting married I think we will be up for an all inclusive lazy beachy kind of thing. but where?
I only have a few requirements. No swimming pools that have the company name on the bottom. Nice beach and views. Must have decent booze. And not totally desolate or old, I might like to talk to someone other than my new wife. So any suggestions?

More relaxed than a "tuxedo" cruise, and no sign of kids (they hide them all in a corner somewhere
) They do the med during the summer and the carribbean in the winter. All inclusive lazyness on the boat, and you can get off at various destinations during the day if you can be bothered.

When MrsV6 & I tied the knot, we too decided to go down the "easy, relaxing" route for honeymoon rather than the more adventurous kind of trip we normally prefer.
Other considerations were:
1. Somewhere neither of us had been before
2. No mosquitos / malaria worries
3. Some decent scenery to look at
4. Upmarket hotels a bonus
5. English as a first / major language a double bonus
End result was: Australia. A week in Sydney followed by a bit of travelling around and then some island-hopping. Finished up with a few days at Hayman for the 5* treatment before heading home. Lovely.
Must get around to doing those photos for you now the fiddly finishing touches are finally done...

I'm getting married in 4 weeks then off to South Africa for 2 weeks (touring the Winelands for me followed by a safari for her) then to the Maldives for a week. We're staying in the Reethi Rah in the Maldives which I've heard good things about.

Did my honeymoon to St Tropez, bloody fantastic place, only problem is it could end in divorce as you'll spend a great deal of time admiring the thousands of top notch motors be they cars boats or the heli's they fly from the boats to the cars in - oh, and there tend to be a lot of the other type of good bodywork around.
Nice choice of hectic nightclubs (though be careful, if you are unlucky you'll bump into knobs like stringfellow) or relaxing beaches, some secluded relaxed, some not so quiet.
Oh, take a second mortgage out as well and organise your hire car WELL in advance - when we got there we had a choice of the only 2 cars left - a Ferrari at 2k per day or a convertible smart car for 60 a day, and that was 5 years back.

Went to Kuredu Island Resort in Maldives nearly 3 years ago (God I love that place) Absolutely gorgeous place and very good priced.
14 nights at all inclusive package (food and booze) with beach villa, Flights Tax and Maldives Taxi (seaplane) came to £2,300 for a couple.

I believe you can still go on the holiday but not take any of the 'Dive' packages (well, you'll be on your Honeymoon, so should be getting all the 'Diving' you want

Some great looking accomodation options...funny bungalows over the water, apartments on the beach, luxury hotels etc. Just what your good lady deserves

How long do you want to go for? This might determine how FAR you go - you don't want to go to the S Pacific for 1 week...
You looking for something traditional - ie bungalows on the beach - or a little more "touristy"
Big or small?
What do you like doing apart from sitting on the beach. (if you only want to do this then the Maldives might suffice, but if you want to do something a little more adventurous, say hiking, or birdwatching or white water rafting or anything like that, then places like that are not really gonna work). Smaller hotels tend to have less facilities, though these can often be sourced locally
Do you like certain kinds of food or are you a meat & 2 veg kinda couple?
When do you want to go? This would be crucial to ensure you don't spend 2 weeks on your hotel balcony in the rainy season wishing you were elsewhere
And the big Q: How much do you wanna spend?
It might then be able to steer you in the right direction...

Kuredu - yup, been there! - nice one
(Although I would now visit other islands in preference - for example Baros is just a 25min speed-boat ride from the airport.) One of the bigger resorts where you can do a few water sports and has a few other bits and bobs. The Water Villas had just been built when we went - ideal. Think it's one of the few resorts which is "so big" (well a mile long, IIRC) which actually has a bus to take you to your door!
If you go much smaller, once you've spent an hour walking round the island four times there's "nothing" to do - so they're not for everyone! And you just HAVE to do some diving or, at least, snorkelling to appreciate the Maldives.
You might want to do some research though - never been to one of the offending ones, but there are a few islands which tend to be over-run by boozy Russian types playing cards and just generally disruptive all day and night.
Oh and Kuredu is the only place (in the Maldives) we've been troubled by sand "flies". Generally, the brilliant part of the Maldives is there's not much to hurt you.....

Mauritius - one of the most beautiful Islands on the planet, but eye wateringly expensive.

Mauritius is pretty impressive, and you do get the Southern Hemisphere sky to gaze up at when not busy at night, but can be quite cool and sub-tropical at certain times of the year: The sea can be surprisingly "refreshing".
We went to Goa on our honeymoon: very friendly people wherever you go, pretty good scenery, excellent food. Just bring plenty of Factor 50.
The Maldive Islands are beautiful, but for a honeymoon I would look elsewhere because after two weeks of the same scenery it can become a little tedious. We went to Hakuura which is one of the most southerly islands, the views were stunning, the hospitality excellent, but the food was only average, with the menu being repeated weekly. Most Islands also repeat their evening entertainment, so in week 2 (if you stay for 2 weeks) you get an almost identical repeat to week 1, and TBH the entertainment is not up to much.
The Island of Langkawi just off Malaysia is a good alternative, we stayed at The Datai and had a great time. The food and service is fantastic, it is quite a large Island so there is plenty to see and do (walking, wildlife and shopping), and the beach was beautiful and quiet....so nice and relaxing.

Also heard good things about Langkawi...but depends on time of year - SE Asia rainfall varies from 0 to TORRENTIAL!
We're getting married in May, then off to Bali and Borneo - fancy a mix of active and beach. Both look fantastic, and it's not costing us as much as we'd budgeted, going for 4* and 5* hotels too!
Can also recommend Thailand - one of the friendliest places we've visited. Krabi or Phi Phi for the quiet & picture postcard beach holiday, Phuket or Koh Samui for more nightlife, Pattaya if you like lecherous old men

MALDIVES, MALDIVES, MALDIVES. Can't believe there is anywhere on the planet as picturesque, and for a fraction of the cost of the "others".
