Is it the sex offenders list that is the issue?
Discussion
With all the reports of sex offenders becoming teachers etc, it got thinking!!
The way I see it is that the problem is with the list its self or how people make it on there.
Having kids mayself I would hate to think that one of my daughters was being taught by a convicted sex attacker.
But can anyone tell me what type of offensive would get you put on it??
I would have no problem with a teacher, teaching at a school who at the age of 14 or 15 slept with his 14 or 15 year old girlfriend, got caught but somehow got placed on the sex offenders register for sleeping with an underage girl.
Could you be placed on the register for such an offence?

The problem is, you can end up on this list even if you were only cautioned. In other words, you were never charged, you never went to court and you never were found guilty (or, indeed, innocent).
Ironically, if the police have stronger evidence against you, they should probably push for charges. However, if you then go to court but are found "Not Guilty", you will NOT end up on the list. That means, the police may find that someone they have serious concerns about won't end up on the list whilst someone they just want to "warn off" will.
Therefore, the police now prefer to "caution" someone rather than prosecute.
As far as I can see, this all works AGAINST proper justice being administered.

Some old man who lives near me was put on it for wanking in his car...
Dosen't that make a mockery(sp?) of the register though....
I wouldn't say he was a danger to anyone, but if he had 12,000 pictures of naked kids in a suitcase or on a PC then he should be on the list and his occupation checked and double checked etc. after the punishment served!
On the Jeremy Vine show on Radio 2 yesterday, a 15 year old boy was caught having consentual sex with his 15 year old girlfriend. The girls parents weren't happy and prosecuted the lad, and he was put on the sex offenders register.
There was another bloke who was on a crowded train, and crushed against a lad, when it came time to get off the train, the lad told everyone this bloke had been touching him up. He was taken to the police station where he was given a choice between going to court or taking a caution. The bloke had a wife and kids, so took the caution just to get out of there, not realising that a caution is almost an admission of guilt, so his name went on the sex offenders register too.
They also said that once on the register, although you can have your name removed at some later stage, you have to declare it everytime your asked for previous offences as it never really goes away.
Good for those that deserve it, not so good for those that get on there because there are no grey areas in the use of the sex offenders register.

The "List" is not considred punishment. Many on the list have not been found guilty of anything. As far as I know, once on this list, you never come off it.
So if you have a piss in an alleyway late at night after a few pints , a copper sees you , you are then tarred as a "sex offender" for the rest of your life ?

Exactly.
He was sitting in his car in the middle of nowhere, and the police pulled up behind him, wondering why there was a car sitting in the middle of nowhere at night. The policeman went up to the driver and saw what he was doing, and therefore arrested him. He is now officially a sex offender, and is on the list!
Crazy...

Sorry i meant on the list after punishment, prison etc. the list appears to be a farce let alone punishment!

I think you will find this is seen as indecent exposure, and can lead to you being put on the list.

So would have a problam with him teaching your children..??
I actually know someone who had a very similar thing happen.
When he was 16 he had consensual sex with his 15 year old girlfriend and she became pregnant and had a termination. Her parents pushed for a prosecution and informed the police and he was given a formal caution over the matter, end of matter lesson learnt move on, or so you would think.
However he is now in his early 40's has been happily married for 15+ years, has a job a mortgage, 2 lovely kids, pays his taxes, and really fits the profile of a model citizen. A couple of years ago his wife decided she would like a change of career and went to college at night to do the courses to become a registered child minder and everyone thought good on her an ideal candidate, she spent 2 years getting everything in place and ready for her new business but got scuppered at the last minute when she applied for the license because of "his previous conviction for underage sex" They hadn't even discussed it, he hadn't told her about it, no one had even considered it because as far as everyone was concerned it was water under the bridge and an error of youth that had been forgotten in the mists of time.........However the computer said no and it not only wrecked her job plans but damm near pulled their marriage apart and destroyed a tight loving caring and honest family unit.

Nope not at all,its the sort of thing most blokes have done in the past when "4 parts to the wind" and if caught we'd all be on the list.
But it all comes down to the same old thing ,those in authority not using Common sense.

Why is it that these on the surfice brilliant pieces of legislation and laws seam to only punish the inocent!!!!
It's just another witch hunt. It's the same as the terrorist witch hunt. The speeding witchhunt. The planning witchhunt. The racist witchhunt. I'm sure there are loads of them, but that's just the measure of the crappy country we live in.
Who cares?
Edited to add;
I'll just keep adding them, as I remember them.
The antisocial behaviour witchhunt.
The celebrity drug addict witchhunt.
The 4x4 witchhunt.
The WMD witchhunt.
The Co2 witchhunt.
.....
The only notable witchhunt thats missing really, is the politician witchunt.
