I've bought an engine in Edinbrough, only problem is it's still in the car and a 6 hour drive away. The guy up there wants £125 minimum to take it out. I can take the whole car but it's got no tail lights or tailgate and some rear end damage so I think driving it the whole way is out, I'd be virtually guarenteed a pull especially on 6 hours of motorway - allthough I have to admit a banzai midnight pikey mission did breifly cross my mind In an ideal world I do want the whole car, cause the engine's a slightly different year to mine so I might need the odd bracket, hose etc. Could then maybe sell the bits I don't use.

If I had one of those rigid bar thingys like the RAC use would it be tow-able by a car with a towbar? Not a dolly, one with all four wheels on the ground. How easily obtainable are these rigid bar thingys?

Your thoughts please....

Hire a van capable of towing, and a car trailer.

I bought one of those rigid tow bars from Machine Mart.

You do NOT want to do a long journey with it.....

If its still driveable, ie no suspension, brake or tyre damage buy a complete trailer light board from a trailer/caravan shop, should cost about £20, some of the snapon 3M connectors and jury rig back lights and indicators with the light board tied to the back of the car.

May be a bit cold but with the heater going full blast you should be able to get it home without freezing your nuts off or getting gassed to death...

Then afterwards you sell the trailer board for a tenner.....

Cheers,

Tony

A car you dont know much about i would seriosly consider the trailer route, failing that there are plenty of people who will pick up and deliver a car for you for a price. If you can get that for around a £1 a mile your onto a good one.
