An acquaintance has found himself in the position of having to pay back 80 hours to the ‘community’ after changing his plea when told he was going to be looking at a short spell of time in the showers with Big Bubba.
Anyone going to own up to doing any, or know what he’s likely to be made to do?
By trade he’s a self employed builder, would they get him doing something related to this or is it picking up litter on the M1 in a stripy jumpsuit?
Do you get to pick and choose when you pay the time back or is it fixed, with a bit of luck he’s spending every Saturday until Christmas breaking rocks. That might teach him something.

There are a couple of charity shops near me that have community service people working in them. Though I'd presume this would be for the least serious crimes.

They don't do litter picking in stripey suits - need to protect their human rights

pretty much any sort of volunteer task I guess, I know someone who refused to pay a speeding fine and eventually got the cs and ended up helping the caretakers of a military museum, he quite enjoyed it!

I think you will be disappointed at the repenance he has to repay to the community.

I run a community hall and we used to have people on CS do the redecoration. They would come on a Sunday and their hours started from when they were picked up at home, so some had done an hour before they even arrived. First thing was to have a coffee. An hour later they would start getting the painting materials out, they would then work with all the speed of a snail on a go slow for about an hour, when it was time to start to pack up. In 4 hours of CS time they did about 30 minutes of work! Re3sult was it took months for them to paint the hall, a job which has recenly been down in a matter of hours by volunteers.

Having said that the advantage of those on CS doing it was less vandalism, as they didn't want to fix what they had broken!

I took in a mate that was looking @ a stay in Belmarsh or a cazillion hours com service (if a responsible adult would shelter him ie me...what were they thinking). He did a couple of days renewing the paths on a canal regeneration (good idea but the rest of the scrotes turned it into a running joke) and then went into a charity shop (SCOPE) where he seemed to spend the rest of the time fending off other scrotes who wanted to shoplift the place.
A client of mine (Hell's Angel) had to do his in a community centre but was under the constant supervision of a prison officer who was a complete with him. And why not.

So it depends what his area has available for him.

Edited because I don't want my CS knowledge all over the net.

Well theres lots of Charity Shops and not many zoos.
I can't help but smile at the thought of him working in the local Oxfam.

I think a spot of CS would be much more benficial to everyone than dishing out penalty points/speeding fines. It would be a bit like school detention for grown-ups.

Our local 'low security' prison has them working in charity shops as a way of re-integrating them into society
