Fair play to him he had a good innings, this maybe is understood better to the scottish participants on this board (im unsure if Weirs Way was broadcast outside of Scotland?)

Always loved watching Weirs Way at 2am, it grew quite a cult following. Sad day indeed, Rest in Peace Tom.

You don't have to be Scotch to understand 'good innings'

Obits on here are getting a bit odd.

Either they die a death (sic){very} or a hoooooooooooge row starts up and it lasts for days.

You're right. A genuinely sad loss. A great Scotsman and a great friend of people everywhere. Sadly missed (at 2.00am)

I'll cross it, and you can nod it in. By the way, is that one of the known planets?

I have so much I would like to say about Tom, but I don't think I can put it all into words.

It was not just about a wee guy in a trade mark bunnet tramping around Munroes, but more about a post war people beginning to realise their past and realising the generations of untruths that had led to their social conditioning.

In his quiet manner, speech and self depreciating manner, Tom came through as a man of the people, ALL people and managed to make you realise just what had not been said (or allowed) in his programs.

No doubt there will be, in the duration of this thread, the usual "sweatie" comments.

Well to those who make them think on this.

Tom was a free thinking man whose ideal was to make the scottish people just that-free thinking. Decades of post war rule from Westminister have managed to extinguish that flame and now you have a people who appear in the majority to be swayed in their democratic principles by the Giro, satellite TV and Murdoch.

The West Lothian Question?? You reap what you sow.

MoJo.

MoJo, excellent appreciation of Tom Weir. The flame, however,is not extiguished and Scotland remains a great place to be. Tabloid mentality is everywhere, but only exists on the surface of any society.

We just need even more democracy, better local news coverage and more honest politicians.

Tom loved Scotland, its still worth loving.
