We Have The 4th Best Selling Album!
Discussion
Seeing the "I can't sleep" thread, I've worked the last 48 hours straight....but all for
good reasons.
I don't normally adopt smug mode, but the band I manage called A.C.T have shot to
number 4 on the Swedish album sales chart with their new CD called 'Silence' which
came out this week and stores have also sold out in many Cities in Germany, so it's
going rather crazy here!
Feeling dead chuffed right now.

well now you have to complete their rockstar status and have them do something comlpetely rock n roll....
have them push starting the tour bus in the middle of the night in god knows where...
...when they find out it's gone no.1

Bring on the ZO6

Some kind of cock-up going on there mate! The search engines struggle to find the band or the album due to selection of words/letters.
I eventually tracked it down but both Amazon and HMV have the album title listed as "Silver", not "Silence". HMV have the band name listed as "Act", not "A.C.T". Not easy to find samples either.
£8.99 delivered to your door from HMV online.
Also, for some top ROCK action try "Rise" by The Answer. Absolute belter. They're gigging at the Engine Room in Brighton on Mon 30 Oct. Cheap entry (£6) and a nice run in the Vette so no excuses!

A.C.T are the greatest band currently on the scene IMO
That sounds like a sweeping statement I accept... In order to agree with me, you'd have to be a fan of jaw-dropping instrumentation, catchy melodies, hooklines and riffs, chunky guitars (not quite so much on this album I'll grant you) and not be afraid of occasional bursts in and out of 4/4.
I'm no rookie when it comes to Rock music.. Been there, seen that.. several times over etc.. But this band really are a breath of fresh air. Even more so live - I've never, ever seen such (at times) complicated music played so effortlessly, with such a sense of joy (sounds soppy but it's true!)... I've seen them several times now and have even been to see them in their hometown Malmo, Sweden. I can't wait to see them again.
No band has fired my enthusiasm since my spotty mid-late teens/early 20's when I used to live and breathe music. I really do rate them that highly!
Congratulations to Graham (and the lads!)
Colin
This sums them up pretty well
All five musicians are inspired by a multitude of different bands, including among others Muse, Rush, Saga and ELO. There are elements of all of those bands in A.C.T, but there is also much more to their sound that makes “Silence” so convincing. The band’s sound incorporates melodic, upbeat progressive rock with a strong focus on sophisticated songwriting that was once employed by It Bites in the 80’s. At times, the new album features powerful and complex rhythms slightly akin to UK and piano and vocal lines, which are reminiscent of Supertramp. The new album features arrangements that Crowded House would be proud of and all with a sense of drama that recalls bands such as Queen or Saga. Jerry Sahlin adds that the band always tries to add something special to their songs during live shows to surprise their audiences.
The studio versions of the band’s material already contain their fair share of surprises. “Out Of Ideas” for instance, is contrary to the song’s title and utilises complex swing beats that recall Scritti Politti and superb vocal harmonies. “Hope” uses a lavish vocal melody that repeats over a progressive staccato riff, with elements of metal and classic rock.
The band’s skills are not just limited to impressive solo spots but can be best appreciated in their ensemble playing. There are some stand out examples on the new album such as the guitar and keyboard interplay in the middle section of “Hope”, or the bass and keyboards working together in ”No Longer Touching Ground”. The first half of the album is a collection of individual songs, while the other half tells the tragic story of Joanna, a young woman desperately wanting a child, who ends up experiencing a tragic turn of events. It is in this second half of “Silence” where the band really shines and captivates the listener with its finer tones and complex song structures. Each listen reveals something new in the music without ever taking the magic away from it. How the band achieves this will probably remain A.C.T’s biggest mystery.

Thats all we need. Another boy-band. When will we get a proper band, with proper music??

Well the girls do love them, but it's the first time they have been called a Boy band
Thanks for the kind comments ( most of you!
) and Amazon were informed of their error a few days back.
They were voted best live band at the top rock festival in Sweden a couple of years ago
ahead of supergroups such as YES, Jethro Tull, Queensryche and Whitesnake and now sit
surrounded by such legends as Bob Dylan, Iron Maiden, Bruce Springsteen and current hot
artistes such as Evanescence, Scissor Sisters, Christina Aguilera and The Dixie Chicks.
I like Friday the 13th.

Well done Graham! Oh, and well done to the lads in the band too, I suppose.
