What are the two fastest speeds you've been apart from flying in a commercial aircraft?

The fastest l've been is 140 mphthumbup on a Tandem Skydive in Florida two years ago, the second fastest is 120 mph in 4 seconds on the Top Thrill Dragster rollercoaster at Cedar Point Amusement Park, Ohio in 1995.

Click on www.cedarpoint.com then on All The Rides, if you've got broadband you can watch a POV video of the Top Thrill Dragster rollercoaster and all the other rides. l've visited Cedar Point nine times, Cedar Point has more white knuckle rides than any other amusement park in the world and Maverick it'syes17TH ROLLERCOASTER is under construction

I did an indicated 49 mph on my mountainbike down Alpes D'Huez in France. Seems a bit silly looking back!

I saw 165 units of speed on the way to LeMans in 2005.

At school I got a flight in a Navy Lynx helicopter which covered ground pretty quickly - not sure how fast though.

Its so tempting i tell you, but the only problem is that it stops just as quick aswell taking just 50mm to stop the thing.

Commercial aircraft you say?

So my toys still count.

VNE dive for a permit renewal in the Yak, 420 kmh/260 mph.

In the Pitts, in the competition box generally around 160mph, but up to 200mph.

In the Rangie - who knows? - it runs out of fuel before reaching top speed.

In a parallel universe, I did once get the Griff going as fast as it would go. I didn't look at the speedo though.

For a while, the Tuscan did take to indicating 190-odd...when parked in the garage. The speedo want back to Blackpool for a good kicking, and it was slightly more sane after that. I never managed to summon the required bottle to see how fast the Tuscan would go.

Same here, but I approached it rather differently...in another country, that may or may not have been on the way to Le Mans, my speedo ceased to function, but I did see all 3 change up lights lit...whilst in top

I'd all but forgotten about the change lights - but it reminds me of the first time the red light went on at night - great bit of design - at night it was like having someone let off a big red flash gun right in front of your face: You're going like stink, the engine is about to explode...and now you can see the square root of bugger all. Magnificent.
