My TVR has a 5.0 engine but I only do 2,500 miles a year in it.

So that's the same pollution as a car that does 40mpg doing 5,000 miles a year... which is far less than average.

Shame he never thought it through...

The only good thing is that I believe it will only apply to new cars.

If it's done solely on engine size, they've obviously never heard of forced induction....

It will almost certainly be done by the existing Tax bands. The 'G' Band cars are those that produce more that 225 carbons (or whatever the measurement is)

It's about time the whole 'car tax' thing was scrapped, it's probably far to simplistic logical and fair so it'll never happen but why not just add a few pence to petrol, then people with big engines get hit, people doing big miles get hit, and people doing small miles with big engines don't need the KY, theres no way out of not paying, we don't need roadside ANPR machines.....arrrr just realised why it'll never happen, we get more tax added to petrol anyway so whats the chances of this government removing a nice little earner, errr none. banghead

"Brown certainly packs his bags at an opportune time," said Peter Spencer chief economic adviser to the Ernst & Young ITEM Club added.

Mr Spencer added Mr Brown would probably draw a line under his time as chancellor by claiming he has met his fiscal rules and is leaving the economy on track for 3% growth this year.

"What he actually leaves is a large structural deficit and a national tax burden rising to its highest in over 20 years," Mr Spencer added.

You'd never tire of punching that face would you? A man who has performed appallingly and destructively, squandering billions of our hard earned every year, raping our pensions and creating a profligate public sector that we can't afford. He happens to have done it at a time when global economies have performed well and after he inherited a vibrant uk economy from the tories, so his defeciencies have been masked. He's been a disaster. Seriously though, can one appeal for 'classic' vehicles or do something to stop the nonsense for second/low mileage cars?

It's been done before. About 100 years ago the Govt introduced a Horsepower Tax of £1 a year per horse.

That's why Americans got Ford V8 Pilots and we got Austin 7s...

It's a nice soundbyte the media can remember. It makes you think it's destroying the planet even when it's parked, which helps the hype you see.
