As per the title planning to take the mrs to champagne for our anniversary.

I'm looking for something fairly stylish in a traditional setting that would be a good base for visiting vineyards.

Anyone any ideas?

If you want in the city (Reims), you could try Les Crayéres. Tel: 01 26 82 80 80 (book in advance, they only have 16 rooms).

I stayed last year here:

www.labriqueterie.fr

Fantastic food, very nice rooms, excellent swimming pool and stuff. Highly recommended.

Do not stay in Chalons sur Marne...(it's so bad they've even changed the name to Chalons en Champagne to try to fool us! )

I maybe a bit late but I will add my idea anyway. If you have a car I thorougly recommend Chateaux D'Etoges in Etoges - it is within the champagne area but about a 30 min drive from Epernay or Reims. It is a traditional style chateaux with moat and long drive - huge amount of character if a little querky (fab restaurant).

Yes, that is very good, as is Les Crayeres in Reims.

Les Crayeres is in a good location, and is close to one of the best tours in Champagne which is Pommery. Also close in the vicinity are Veuve Clicquot (have to book ahead) and Piper Heidseck.

Moet is another good tour but that is in Epernay which is about a 20-30 minute drive away.

Also don't miss Reims cathedral which is spectacular. There are a couple of very good champagne shops in the square surrounding the cathefral too.

Another vote for Les Crayére. I'll be there again in August when I pick my car up from the factory

Funnily enough stayed here also a few years ago, was about to recommend when I saw the thread title but couldn't remember the name - It's great to stay in place with a moat they even have (or at least had) a small boat so you can row around the outside of it, which I did many times being a big kid.

Nice place, lots of character.
