I have recently closed my personal current account with Barclays (bloody shower), and I'm just in the process of switching all my direct debits to our business account.

My mobile is the last payment to be sorted out.

I want to transfer the monthly payments from my now closed personal account to the business account. The business account is held in my Mums name, but I am listed as a signatory.

They took a payment for the missed billing last month from the business account by debit card on my authority, but point blank refused to switch the direct debit to the account as it was not in my name. Said it was illegal confused

The AA, Virgin Money, MBNA etc didn't seem to mind one bit. Apparently it's because I signed a direct debit guarantee. I told them that it would be churlish to refuse payment on these grounds, and asked how the bloody hell they would get their money every month, only to have the phone slammed down by their 'Direct Debit Specialist' rolleyes

So what do I do? I don't want to damage my credit score, but I'm tempted to let them swivel for the money. I'm absolutely positive they are allowed to take payment from anywhere. I even volunteered my mothers signature on a new DD Mandate, but she said it wasn't possible.

Am I missing anything or are they just being twunts?

Yours
Grumpy of Canterbury hehe

ETA: If anyone can get me out of the 3 contract, which runs until feb '08 (18 month) and get me on a business tarrif with 4 users, that includes free calls between each other and a decent text bundle, or inclusive minutes, let me know. Cheers beer
