does anyone know of any military bases which would allow for a music video to be shot

Thanks

Mate of mine is a copper on Anglesey, he has taken his car out on the runway at RAF Valley a couple of times.

You could try them at http://www.raf.mod.uk/rafvalley

However given the current High State of Alert, I suspect the answer is likely to be NO! tank

Depends really. all you can do is to pick your airfield and speak to the Station Commander. I sugegst you have a valid reason why you chose his airfield, i.e. the aircraft type, rather than just need any old airfield.

Otherwise there are plenty of airfields available for filming.

did you just need the tarmac or wanted jets in the background etc...

just for the tarmac and some industrial looking buildings in the background the old MOD site at longcross (was there on monday and autocar were doing a photoshoot) might be good for you.. they have all kinds of odd stuff (from ship-loading cranes, to tank test tracks, suspension testy things...)

currently owned by QinetQ...

Mani, you have a few options from the RAF side.

You will probably struggle with a Main Operating Base(MOB) however having said that I do know that RAF Marham, Norfolk, have held Track Days open to invited public in the past. They also have an active Motor Club at the Station, you could approach them about the viability of a private event. Marham is a busy base with Tornado GR4s permanently based there http://www.raf.mod.uk/rafmarham/ and if you plan on shooting a film/video if theres something in it for the RAF, i.e. good publicity etc they may be interested.

Alternatively you could try and get more information/recommendations from the RAF Motorsport Club http://www.rafmsa.raf.mod.uk/ Their home is at RAF Barkston Heath, which I know has a kart circuit and is rarely used by aircraft.

From a personal point of view I would be interested to see how successful you are, as I have been interested in promoting track events, although only within the Forces.

Good Luck

I think they use their own targets...

RAF syerston is now only used for gliding but there's a couple of (recently decommissioned) Jaguar jets there - and plenty of hangars etc. Access could be less tricky as it's pretty much on care & maintenance and, whilst still MOD propert, not subject to the understandable levels of security at the main bases.

I have a few contacts who might be able to help - PM me if you want.

RAF Halton played host to a feature film shoot a couple of years back - grass runways though - what particular aspect of a military airfield does the video need though? - runways, hangars, white painted coal, crippling budget restrictions or just a general hankering for the good old days?

Drop me an email (public-relations@tvrcc.com) - I may be able to help. (Look for the Status Quo Jam Side Down video to get an idea)

I'm sure RAF Menwith Hill would be more than happy to combine some shooting with some non-military personnel.

Not sure whether an active military base will let you film a video on site.

Have you tried anywhere like Bruntingthorpe or Bentwaters. There is only a Meteor and a light aircraft at Bentwaters though, but you might be able to get on site easier than on a current military base. I think they have a Hardened Aircraft Shelter complex there. It's where Dog Borstal is filmed.

Depends what backdrop you want really, North Weald can be quite interesting with some of the old wartime hangers plus a few old aircraft over there. i.e a couple of Cargomasters, Jet Provosts etc.

Greenham Common has a number of old wartime missile Silos that may be accessible, however there are no aircraft over there.

Binbrook I believe, still has the old hangers, and some old offices. The runway has now gone though, but there is a Lightning parked up there.

Kemble may be worth a shot aswell, lots of classic jets are operated from there.

RAF Spadeadam is probably the most interesting single MoD place for a video, I'd have thought, if you can get in.
