Am I alone thinking T5 is totally and utterly crap!?
Discussion
I passed through T5 on my recent visit home to the UK and entered T5 from Vienna on BA (of course). Apart from the stunning architecture of the building, I was highly unimpressed.
Arriving
- The plane was delayed coming in on the taxiway as the parking assistant was "faulty".
- Our baggage took about 30 minutes to arrive from the plane.
- Hand driers in the toilets are all modern and flash yet they still manage to blow all the water from your hands onto your trousers. (Toilets were also quite dirty).
- No good sign posts for the pick-up point.
- The pick-up point is crap since you have to pay to go there, yet the drop-off is free....????
Departing
- I had to walk from one of the airport (check-in), to the other to hand my golf-clubs in.
- There was no Diners Lounge as there is in every other airport I've ever been to. Only BA lounges which I thought was a piss-take.
- The shops are all massively over-priced with high-street selections that everyone can afford including Gucci, Louis Vitton, Dior, Prada, etc....
- No seating as my friend pointed out. Lucky I got down to the gate on time as half the passengers were standing waiting for the plane to start loading.
- Toilets once again. Goddamn those hand-driers.......
Overall, I was not impressed. Especially by the lack of a Diners lounge or the lack of "normal" shops.

I get u on the hand dryers - seriously, what is it all about..??!!
What really gets me is the "2nd" terminal at T5 so when landing there as its not connected to the main T5 building u have to take an underground noddy train to get to it to clear customs etc. Why couldnt they just build ONE building..??!!

.
So when your outbound flight is delayed, all you can do is walk around over-spending on stuff you don't really need anyway.

And when your incoming flight is delayed, whoever comes to pick you up will be stung with big parking charge.Hopefully I'll never go there as I'm boycotting BA

Its because (and its one of the few gripes I have about this country) the English (british?) are conditioned into accepting mediocrity.
So when someone presents the plans for something, s
tty designs or ideas are either a) not noticed because of a general expectation that each new thing will be slightly s
tty or stupid or b) justified by the argument "No, its not really ideal but its the best we could come up with and people will get used to it, they dont really have any choice."
Im absoutely certain (in a not really certain at all type way) that the builders/designers of these places know theyre building a steaming turd, but they rely on the public's general acceptance of half-arsedness.

I'd say it was due to corporate pomposity, plus a generous helping of 'all spin and no substance'. It's a reflection of 10 years of New Labour - they either say one thing and mean another, or simply bulls
t their way out. Simply chest-beating, at our expense.beanbag said:

Not really, last time I was there I picked up a pair of BOSE QC2 for £180, usual price £225 and a Mulberry bag (which was sold out in the rest of the country) for £100 cheaper.
Lack of seating is terrible though.
Within the first couple of weeks, the toilets had that unmistakable BAA look and smell: piss on the floor, pubes on the urinal edge, smell of crap, soap on the basin edges. It must be part of the training course - "how to create the great BAA look and smell".
The First Class lounge is great though.

BAA is a monopoly, owned by the Spanish. Have you ever flown through Madrid?
What on earth were people expecting. Spain leads the world in loosing luggage and running s
te airports, their even worse at it than the Italians.
totally with u on that - spanish airports are a total joke. I once wandered thru luggage collection forgetting to pick my luggage up (dont ask) and ended up outside on the taxi rank. Promptly tried to explain to the dim-wit security guard what id done, within 1 second of me starting my story he told me to just go back in and get it - no questions asked..!!What on earth were people expecting. May I humbly suggest that the fact you purchased a Mulberry Handbag at all is proof poitive that you wouldnt know "over priced" if it was tattooed on your arse.Edited by 308mate on Wednesday 27th August 15:44
