Mice in the loft....
Discussion
Hmmm... has anyone had this problem and got a good / effective way of getting rid - they're keeping us awake with the noise! We have tried poison and traps and although we catch a couple, they're still here.
Anyone used the ultrasonic / electromagnetic devices and are they effective?
Be good to hear advice !

I've tried the Ultrasonic units in the garage and they don't seem to work, I caught 23 mice in under a week with the Ultrasonic Unit plugged in so I think that gives you an idea!
Personally, I'd save my money and buy a couple of humane traps (I think mine are called 'The Big Cheese' of something of the like) and they work wonders! I ended up catching over 40 mice that way and drove them over 2 miles away to some woodland and now I'm rodent free!

If the ultrasonic things worked, rentokil would have gone bust years ago.
Phone your local council - they should come and bait your loft. Some councils charge for this though.
And spare a thought for me - I've had bigger rodents than that in my loft..

We have something having a party in the roof space above our main bedroom which is a sealed ceiling and flat roof above. Something also plays in the roof space above the kitchen (again a sealed - or not - roof space that we cant seem to get in to) and have also heard something in the space between 1st and 2nd floors in main body of the hse.
At first, thought we were going mad but they are starting to annoy now! Very big and heavy mice if you want my opinion; so loud at times that we thought it was foxes or a badger on the roof once.
Any ideas? And a cat isn't the most practical thing for us unfortunately

Good pointElectromagnetics do, and I know of several pest control companies that use them.
But the electro-magnetic devices are OK?
Can these be used from the bedroom to control the loft space?

I understand some people have looped a long extension lead around the attic and plugged one into that.
It's not something I know a great deal about, but the group I work for also own a company that has the same name as some popular trading stamps of yore. So if you want to shield yourself from rodents in a green way, it may be worth a google. I don't want to be accused of advertising

Ultrasonics don't work. Snake oil.

I don't believe they work any better than ultrasonics. Just because a pest control company uses them doesn't mean they work. It just means a pest control company is making money out of selling them to people.Electromagnetics do, and I know of several pest control companies that use them.
And it looks like I'm not alone in doubting that they work:

No ultrasonic company is an accredited member of the British Pest Control Association.
The electromagnetic company I mentioned above is.
It is not a send in a cheque and get rubber stamped organization, by the way.
Like I said though, not really my area.
