I saw this on here the other day...

Is it real?

If so, it entirely convinces me of the benefits of our temperate clime!

Vile...

You don't think there are some benefits then?

"When they bite you, you are injected with Novocain so you go numb instantly. "

Good against road rage I would offer!

My uncle told me a story when i was a kid, about a spider in the desert that was large enough to straddle your head whilst you were asleep and lay it's eggs under your skin, you don't even know they've done this untill you itch your face one day only to reveal 100s of little spiders under your skin

He said they were called camel spiders?

I was totlay taken in by this, but oiver the years came to the conclusion that this was a load of bull, so please, someone tell me that these are not called CAMEL SPIDERS !!!!!!!! they look big enough to cradle ur face to me!

Mind you the numbing / eating bit is bad enough!

PS - Not eating cheese before bed tonight!

SH*IT! just done a search, and it is a camel spider, no mention of the egg laying thing tho

Yes. Camel spiders!

A friend of mine at work had a son who worked for the Sultan of Oman as a blacksmith. He sent one of these spiders back that was in a clear solid plastic dome that you can buy out there as paper weights. Nasty!

They (the spiders) wait in the palm trees for a passing camel that rubs itself on that tree, which wakes the spider up which then scuttles down the tree and proceeds to eat the camel after numming the area it's eating. Then when the camel moves off, the spider scuttles back up the tree!

Lovely!!!

We've got the big Spiders back from last year

Chased one out of the bathroom accross the landing and nearly into my Bedroom the other night.

I managed to stop it's progress quite quickly

Lucky I didn't have my glasses on, as If I had seen how big it was I may have really st myself.

in my old mk1 Mr2 i had a spider that lived in the door mirror for years. It came with me to Le Mans last year, and thousands of miles in this country despite my best efforts with the jet wash! Christ knows what it was eating to stay alive, i never saw it catch a fly.

Not a hoax, I used to see these in Saudi, not that large admittedly but these things, are without, doubt the vilest, nastiest and scary beasties I've ever seen. They are as aggressive as a Glaswegian skinhead and will attack anything. A pal of mine caught a little one in a jar then released it in front of a preying mantis, the bloody thing leapt at it and sliced it neatly in two.....he then spent the next 10 minutes trying to batter the fecker with a wheel chock. Another guy had one jump at his head from a rock then run after him.

Having recently sent son number two off to Lancaster Uni (will be seeing him at the weekend - mini back home) we managed to clear the house of a couple of beauties, his pets. Chilli, a Chilean Rose Tarantula(grows to about 5 or 6 inches across), but bulky and slow moving (although it can flick poisonous hairs in your eyes that will blind you!) and the Orange Baboon Tarantula, that used to hiss at us if we opened the lid to feed it, was very fast moving, as big as Chilli and an evil little f**ker (ate baby mice for fun) www.diamondreptile.com/orange_baboon_tarantula.jpg
He's now added two snakes to the collection, which just leaves us with Jasper, the 5ft Iguana (oh & cats, dog, etc)
