Hi all,

I know this isn’t strictly motoring related but you will enjoy it!

Vulcan Restoration Trust - Steve Williams said:

The Vulcan Restoration Trust is holding an Open Day at Southend Airport on Saturday 12th August. The Trust owns and maintains the former Royal Air Force Vulcan aircraft that has been at the airport since 1986 and all money raised by the event will go towards the aircraft’s ongoing upkeep.

The Open Day will start at 10.00 am and will close at 5.00 pm. Highlight of the day will be a high-speed taxi-run by the Vulcan at mid-afternoon. The sight and sound of a Vulcan powering down the runway is an awesome one and is a major attraction for the public and enthusiasts alike. The Vulcan’s cockpit will also be open to visitors throughout the day.

The purpose of my letter is to ask if PH would like to be present at the Open Day, either to promote your work and activities or to raise funds by way of donations or the sale of goods and souvenirs. We are not making any charge for exhibition space for community or voluntary groups and ‘profit-making’ exhibitors are welcome to make a donation at the end of the day if they see fit. Exhibitors will need to provide their own stands, although some table space may be available inside our marquee (please enquire).

We expect the Open Day to be very well supported by the public. Our previous two Open Days in 2002 and 2006 have seen crowds of 3,000 – 4,000. We will be publicising the Open Day on local radio and in the local press (as well as the national aviation press) and will be displaying posters in local tourist offices, museums and libraries throughout the summer. We will also be promoting the Open Day at aviation museums and at air displays across the country.

Basically they are after some nice PH cars to put on display, if you are willing. Of course you will have to be there but I am sure there will be a good opportunity for photos in front of the aircraft.

I am due to be away that weekend but I don’t mind sorting things out. Please reply to this and put down your name and car type, and perhaps e mail me through my profile.

Definatly up for this. Am a big fan of Vulcans and have great memories of this aircraft displaying at airshows before it was withdrawn...

Date is Sat 12th August. I have been liasing with Nick on this event for the East Anglia region over the past few months, although our late friend Ian Beech first started the ball rolling prior to his death.

Nick, I have started a thread on the East Anglia forum with a link to this thread, as promised, to try and salvage something from our earlier discussions.

I would still like to attend with the Corvette if I can work something. I,ll let you know once I get some feed back from our forum.

I would suggest that you are there by 0930 at the latest.

As you are not airside I would be suprised if your standard insurance did not cover you 3rd party.

Pretty sure I could pop up to this, have a friend up there that I could do with seeing and would love to have a nosey up close and personal with a Vulcan.

Nice bright Yellow Cerb.
