Is bloody hard work

Todays project is to lay the last half dozen slabs for the patio I started and almost finished fifteen years ago.

Having lugged hardcore and whumped ballast, I remember why I didn't finish it, it's backbreaking work

Anyone else feel like their back is about to explode?

Yes. I work at an events centre after school, this last week i had to carry a tonne of staging gear from the basement to the hall for a show, put it all up and then take it back down the following day. Ow.

Why would I want to do your paving when I have just recommended you get a builder to do it? If I wouldnt do mine I certainly wouldnt do yours!

Too late to get a builder, my bloke pride depends on doing this now.... I love my new disc cutter

Quick Q as I've forgotten:

What's the right mix of sand and cement?

2:1 is what id use, dry mix if youre just laying slabs.

Far too strong, you're wasting the cement. 6:1 sand:cement is the norm, 8or9:1 dry mix, basically just enough to change the colour of the sand, which needs to be Washed Concreting. Or Sharp, grit, screened, zone 2, zone 4, coarse, it's all the same. (oh Ok, pedantics, I know zone 2 and 4 are different, but for the sake of Mr. Blairout, he's not going to be able to tell the difference, and neither could I by just looking).
