W772 XGC wow my TVR Tuscan is still running
Discussion
Just come back from a trip to Birmingham and whilst coming down the M40 in my Audi RS6 what should I see but my old TVR Tuscan in Dodge Viper Blue driving down the middle lane.Well given all the trouble I had with it (car number 46 off the Tuscan production line!!!!) I was gob smacked to see it running and it still looked frankly brilliant. I am sure all the problems have been sorted with it ( it had pretty much everyTuscan malady) and I bet is now giving its current woner some great fun for money motoring. the driver was not the guy I sold it to so it must be on its 3rd owner atleast. Be great to know if anyone here knows who does own it now andwhat its been up to.

Um
That'd be me! I've had it about 6 months now, been completely trouble free. Just had a major service (rocker cover off) and apparently its like new inside the engine. Drives solid as a rock too (esp compared to some others I tested).
What went wrong while you owned it? It had a rebuild in late 2004 and a new clutch plus lots of other bits and bobs just before I bought it, new brakes too.
Like I said, runs sweet as a nut. Oh, and the chassis is in top condition too, with zero corrosion. Yay.

I originally ordered the car at the motorshow in I think 1997 or 98 through Team central and then had it delivered through Mole Valley. From memory the original spec was as follows:
Dodge Viper GTS Blue
Portland Grey Leather
Enhanced Stereo Speakers
Power Steering
Air Conditioning
Hydratrac LSD
It was my pride and joy after two second hand griffiths previously.
I think it had an engine rebuild at about 4000 miles when there was the problem with cam followers that failed. It then had a new engine at about 7000 miles after it blew a hole in the side of the block, new switch gear for the doors, new wheels (it originally came with 16" wheels), new exhaust to accommodate the updated 18 in wheels, several top end rebuilds as the fingers on the valves kept failing. I seem to remember it went back to TVR to be competely repainted and have I think two new instrument packs. I also seem to remember that I had the red rose suspension and maybe brakes fitted to it. It also had the revised roof catches fitted and various bits of trim restuck and refitted. I think I sold it after 9000 miles with a feeling that pretty much everything had been rebuilt and that it was now a pretty good car. I sold the car in late 2001 from memory. I guess you are the third owner in which case the last chap who bought it from me probably kept it for a reasonable length of time.
What I do remember was how great it was to drive when it was working. It went round Donnington and Malory park pretty well and caused a hell of a stir when I took it to Holland when it was brand new. Still looks pretty cool and I am delighted that you are enjoying it. Yes I am a bit jealous!!
Kind regards
Jonathan

Certainly sounds as though you got the short end of the stick as under my stewardship, it has been trouble free and a joy to own, although that will be coming to an end shortly. I've had my brief stint of fun but 4 seats beckons sadly.
Its still in top condition and yes, the brakes are the larger red rose spec items. I redid the pod recently (LCD had died, again!) but now works a treat. Other than that, its been brilliant!
Cheers

Well,
I bought it with 19k on the clock and I've taken it to 25k (bought it to drive it, not look at it).
I had the head off the engine for a poke around during the major service at 24k (by Andy at APM) and he said it all looked ship shape and had the newer chilled steel cams? (whatever they may be) and newer instrument pod (again, nfi what the difference was). The only problem was the windscreen wiper arm connector which fell off 2 days before the service (good timing) so Andy reconnected that.
Its coming up to MOT and tax so I'll have to get that sorted in a few weeks then I'll advertise. I also wanted to fit a couple of other bits and bobs (I got an engine start button, looks lovely, just need to fit it) and was going to upgrade the stereo, but not a whole lot of point now I suppose.
There's oodles of cars about right now, all around the £16-17k mark so figured I'd pitch it in there. I suppose you have the added benefit of knowing its history though :P

Something quick and practical tbh. If you know anyone who fancies an honest car, steer them in my direction.
