Top Cat - do you get your car serviced at Phoenix Motorsport? I think our cars were being serviced on the same day (I have an Elise S in Canyon Red). Every fancy coming along to one of the NORLOG meetings? Usually meet at the Cat + Fiddle on the 1st Sunday of every month.

Thanks for the interest. Here a bit of bumph I wrote for display on the HLR stand at Le Mans
My car is an example of a Series 1 Lotus Eleven. There were three specifications of the Lotus Eleven: “Sports” with ford 1172cc engine, drum brakes and live axle. “Club” with Coventry Climax FWA, drum brakes and live axle. “Le Mans” with Coventry Climax FWA, disc brakes and De Dion rear axle.
This car is a Le Mans specification car with additional modifications for endurance racing. The car has additional bracing in two locations within the chassis to strengthen the car and additional bracing of the inlet manifold. It is also fitted with duel fuel tanks and fuel pumps and has a light to illuminate the racing number to enable the pits to see the number of a car passing at night.
The Lotus Eleven was an incredibly successful racing car. In 1957 a Lotus Eleven finished 1st in class and 9th overall at Le Mans and a special car with a 750cc engine won the Index of Performance. In 1956 a Lotus Eleven driven by Stirling Moss took the class G Land Speed Record with a speed of 132.76 mph, in 1957 this was improved to 143.00 mph in a car driven by Herbert Fraser. The Lotus Eleven was successful around the world and was driven by drivers including Mike Hawthorn, Graham Hill (who built his own), Stirling Moss, Innes Ireland, Les Leston and David Piper.
I’m still trying to research the early history of the car but unfortunately the people who know are no longer with us.
And a couple of more shots
