for what its worth, lotus chappie there said they did a lap in the cup car (for all to see) that would have put it on pole.

draw your own conclusions/handfuls of salt.

they always say that...

I remember 12+ years ago they said the same when they demoed the New Lotus Mootorsport Elise at a 750 club race meet at Silverstone, in reality it was some seconds slower than the laptimes we were doing on the same day in the races.

Look, take of the rose tinted Lotus goggles and look at what's out there.

I am not trying to say it's a crap car, just that it's NEVER going to be as fast as you lot seem to be dreaming it is.

Yes, it will be a very nice road car, but at well over 1,000Kg's it's simply too heavy, and at £70+ K for a 'cup' version, it's simply too much money for what it is.

Let's put this in context, whatever 'issues' Lotus may use for their own Evora with two professional drivers in it being slow all weekend, can you then tar the Evora GTN that was running with the same brush?

look at the times, and the cars in-front of them, Rob Boston in a production spec S2 was faster.

for Mr Pits to then keep banging on about a 911 is just laughable, I am sure Porsche are quaking in their boots at this new Exige....

Haven't mentioned the 911 in nearly a week!

What's laughable is the pedestal you put the GT3 RS on, a car which I believe you have yet to drive and about which you make assumptions based on hugely more expensive 911 GT race car.

What makes you think a 4.0RS could dismiss with a 440bhp, 1080kg, xtrac sequential paddleshift equipped Exige with adjustable dampers and uprated brakes? Such a car would be over £80k but still barely more than half what the GT3 cost. It has less than 60 more bhp and at least 300kg extra weight. Wakey wakey scuffers, time to wake up!

so, your quite happy to compare a road car with a race car then?

Please make your mind up....

Oh and for the record, yes I have driven a few 911 GT3's thanks!

as I keep saying, end of the day, time will tell, when these cars are actually out there, I am sure it will become very obvious very fast...

The track record for quotes has been bad and I haven't rated a lotus product for performance since the s1 but I have driven this thing and coming from a few quick 911 s and a k20a s1 exige it's got me interested again. its certainly quicker than my honda exige was...... For me it's jumped through that serious performance barrier .... agree though .... let's see some times / hard numbers.

It's also quicker than both my 997 C2 911 and my 2 11 (260). I drove my friends 997 GT3 and yes it was quick but like all other 911's just felt a little boring, not much of a sense of occasion either, Exige S felt very special, and to be honest scary quick even considering I drive a 2 11 at the weekends, it's so usable too unlike a GT3 or a 430 the performance is so easy to use almost impossible to loose unless you are being an idiot. You don't have to try to drive fast it just carry's speed very easily when driving the Feza I almost felt like I had to boot it, it's also a very big car. As I said no One can really comment unless you have at least driven it otherwise it's just pub talk.

Must be 'Motorsport Black' I figure. Up really close it has a very fine gold fleck in it as a nod to the classic JPS livery.

It looks much 'blacker' than (much cheaper!) 'Starlight Black' which has a coarser silver fleck up close.

Having agonised over Motorsports Green for ages, it's between that and silver for me.

Must admit that I am having serious deliberations over which colour to go for!!!

However liking that Black (my Evora was in Startlight Black) but wondering why Lotus are charging so much more if it's just a different flake??

I can't confirm which black that is on the V6 Cup but having seen both starlight and motorsport black up close the fleck is much finer grade in motorsport black. If you parked the two next to each other the starlight car would look like a very dark grey. Motorsport Black is a very pure metallic black, something they've only been able to do in recent years.

I have a 2010 V12 Vantage in Storm Black (red fleck) and the paint is incredible, best paint finish I've ever seen on a car with a really deep shine which does subtle but interesting things in direct sunlight. A friend has a 2007 metallic black Gallardo and it looks flat and charcoal grey parked next to it.

Struggling to make a decision on colour at the moment. I was all set for MS Green but in the flesh it has a pearlescent blue haze on the edges, only visible in direct sunlight but enough for me to have second thoughts at the £1800 extra cost. The darker racing green would be nice so is a front runner along with Nightfall blue (which I already have on my elise) as all previous Loti have been blue (bar Lotus Carlton) so it's become a bit of a tradition for me. Of the lighter colours I think I'd go for Silver. 260Cup looked amazing in silver I thought.

I would be slightly scared taking delivery of a black one, in a good way. So might overlook the fact that I've already got a black car.
