So much pent-up frustration Scuffers.
May I suggest you try getting laid?
the frustration is when Lotus spend time and effort pissing about with yet more paint jobs and st rather than the important stuff, making the cars better.May I suggest you try getting laid?
I find it incredible that people are willing to pay another £2K for 'special' paint on a cars that's supposed to be a track toy and thus will get stone-chipped to death anyway....
if ever there was an example of being a GJOB this is it!
Easy now Scuffo they haven't even done a special edition V6 Exige yet!
By all accounts the Exige V6 is a significant step on from the previous car so that rather goes against the idea that they are wasting time and money on paint and not improving the cars.
In other words, the frustration is in your head.

Never under estimate the importance of aesthetics. While the performance of the car remains perhaps the primary concern, how it looks is very high on the list. You can critisise all you like the endless stream of special paint jobs etc etc but nevertheless when you see the finished article and your mouth drops because of the looks of the car, your very close to selling. I don't have the money but my word they look gorgeous in all the different colours yellow, black or green. No doubt there will be even more in the pipeline that will look even better.
If looks aren't important why do Formula 1 cars have paint jobs and colour schemes. Surely they just have to put out the fastest car. But at the start of every race they are all highly polished and presented beautifully.
Cars dont cut the ice if they look good but dont perform. Cars that perform but dont look good dont do so well either. I for one am happy to see all the different variants, the different paint schemes. It adds to the allure. However I can only dream of owning one.

two reasons:1) sponsorship - no sponsor is going to be impressed when you can't 'see' their very expensive advert
2) dirt is not conducive to smooth airflow over the surfaces.
I am pretty sure if the cars were not sponsored, they would look quite different.
Sponsors do drive the need to keep the cars painted nicely, but pride of the mechanics and engineers is also very important in all aspects of motor racing, in F1 it is just taken to the nth degree because there is the time, money and resource to do it. FYI the cars are painted after every event in the extreme.
for me buying a car I agree that paint jobs are important and I for one would much rather have a type 25 elise rather than a bog standard titanium version....but each to his own.
And as far as airflow is concerned on a clean car....well yes it makes a difference but the difference is so small it would be way past negligible. Even Hamilton would struggle to use that as an excuse

ps scuffers are you this punchy on track and if so I am guessing you don't worry too much about the look of you car due to the number of dents in the bodywork.

sorry?have you ever been on a track?
it's not a question of hitting anything so much as stone chipping etc,
anybody that's had an Elise for a while and actually drives it will know what the front end will look like in a few thousand miles of use.
(oh, and exactly how do you get 'dents' as you put it in a GRP bodyshell?)

Not aimed at anyone in particular..just this thread makes awful reading for people who just want to know about the bloody car.
you know, I actually agree with you.Not aimed at anyone in particular..just this thread makes awful reading for people who just want to know about the bloody car.
so far, there is so little 'real' info on these cars it's laughable, all we have is a 'spec' sheet from Lotus, with 'projected' performance figures and the like, along with a price (that seems somewhat elastic).
it's what? 12 months since the V6 Exige has been talked about yet no customer has got one yet, and very little hard performance figures exist.
what we do have is the hairdresser brigade going on about this or that paint job/wheels/etc.
Hi Scuffers,
yes I have been on track, and yes I agree with the stone chips, as the front on my Europa will testify.
and as for dents....you know what I mean. Lets call them abrasions then if that works better. So come on, how many battle wounds does your car actually have?
C43
PS thinking about it although dirt is not such a big deal on the body it does make a difference on the suction side of aero surfaces and rubber build up on the front wings is a big deal (not really dirt in my book though).

damnations man, this is a lotus forum, of course its 99.9% bunkham ! what did you expect ? .... lol.
as for hairdressing at £1800, fuoco on a 458 is about £20k. but by jove it looks good ... ! everything is relative especially when a v6 is more of a day to day option than an elise now (when it eventually turns up).
whats athe cost of that bling candy red on a ford fiesta? £400 ?
