Lotus Extrema Gets ZR1 Power

sounds like a serious LWB Exige with more then enough punch to scare yourself biggrin
yes I know there is also a very expensive Hennessey which is also updated with a bit different front and even more power (1500hp top version) but thats "silly" (did I say that? ;-))

Composite Worx is an Italian manufacturer of high-end carbon fiber sports seats. They recently built a project car based on a Lotus Exige. They fitted it with new body parts and some new seats, but then stood back and looked at it, and thought it lacks something…. a big, meaty engine!

So they gave it one; a 6.2 liter supercharged LS9 V8 from a Corvette ZR1, developing something in the neighborhood of 640 horsepower. That is a colossal amount of power in a big car, let alone the tiny Lotus. So the results should be interesting, to say the least.

Given the weight of the Exige, which is barely a ton, the power to weight ratio in this car is astonishing. Composite Worx reckons it goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 320 km/h.

Called the Extrema, this car also features a carbon fiber aero kit and a pair of Composite Worx’s SP-1 carbon seats.

Yeah that's a good design with the body door sills lower than the wheel rim....biglaughbiglaughbiglaugh Please let's see this old bucket of crap run at that ride height, not to mention the air intakes for the V8 engine.... Seriously a mail slot and two mouse holes to cool the engine.
It's been around for years, nothing new..

I know that one biggrin
but now you mentioned it and i read the info again with that in mind,
I guess they only changed a few things, new panels and engine and seats etc.
the info was "new" about the changes I guess.

its indeed way to low for street use, maybe only for a very flat track?

I thought (in the beginning) this is the "new" one, I knew someone in the UK was working on, they also made this one I believe. (a few years ago)...but now I see its probably not that one.

the LW base Elise/Exige I was thinking of they were building was going to get a tuned LS3 at least that was the info back from 2011.

The arches do look a bit 'odd' but I think it's a nicely proportioned car, generally...

Would be interested to see underneath the rear clam...

I do see what you would consider to be fundamental floors, but even to my very untrained eye, I can see the side profile shots are heavily photoshopped, so the comments on the ride-height are completely unfounded - they're pretty much like every car manufacturers renderings.

With regards to the cooling, how can you tell from looking at those photos what efforts have been made to ensure there aren't any issues? The short answer is you can't - it's very easy to slag something off when you don't have all (any) of the facts.

I for one think your car is an incredible feat of engineering, but your attitude towards other Lotus based projects IMO stinks and makes you sound like a jealous child.

This is the only Lotus project I've ever commented on to point out the flaws in it's design...
I doubt if they left off the engine floor pan for engine bay cooling and the roof mail slot is too small to feed air to the V8 engine intake, now if you think the side mouse hole openings are enough to cool the V8 without rear venting you have no clue as to how things work in the real world.
Again the body is lower then the wheel rims, it would not make it over the smallest speed bump or up a driveway without high centering.....No rear wheel venting means lift but hey what do I know.

This car started life as a Lotus mule....Left for dead with a V6.

it can have venturi's or air guide's in the floor to give air, also the roof scoop take's air as well as the mouse holes on the side ;-)
the rear deck is open/vented and when air streams over it it takes also a lot engine heat out in theories that is.
furthermore the front has a big cooler and more race style opening on top-lit?

we don't know much about that car, hopefully the owner/builder? can add some more info for us if he reads this.

Notwithstanding the engineering of the car itself, does anyone have any info on the Worx seats showed in the car? I'm searching for a set of lightweight seats for my Ultima and, via this post, came across these CF seats. They look impressive but don't have much to go on. Much like the Lotus, the Ultima interior is very small, narrowing down the number of potential fitments to a scant view. Tillett (sp?) makes a set, but few others are known to fit.
Any chance anyone here has a clue on this product?
Oh, and re the car, it looks like an intriguing show car, but looks intractable from a street or track perspective. Can you actually get a dollar or a euro note between the door sill and the ground? And though I may not have noticed without the prior note but exactly how does air get in to the engine compartment? To be fail, without a walk around, it's hard to really tell from these pix, but it all looks odd and, to my query (above) leads me to question whether this manufacturer is open and honest about their products.

Hi Frank,
I agree with you. It won't work coolingwise for more than a cruise down main street at 30mph. You need to dissipate some 1.2MW of thermal power at 600HP. Looking at your car, I see more vents, fans and radiators than anything else and they are there for a reason.

On the otherside, this is a show car made to look nice and low (important for the fast'n furious drift fan folks buying shiny seats for their "race" cars). It may actually drive (slowly) with the suspension winded high up.
They most likely fire it up on one of those car tuning shows blipping its throttle indoors for the crowds. That's it. No more than that. The top speed numbers are all BS from a calculator.

No undertray and the roof slits give airflow through the engine compartment, agreed.
Aero suffers terribly with the undertray panel off. Compared to running with hthe undertray. past 100mph it feels like someone gradually pulls the handbrake, and my S1 Elise has only a tad over 200HP.
