Isn't it just.

4 years ago when I bought my first this place was thriving, it's like a ghost town now.

I think it must be to do with the popularity of SELOC

I tried SELOC but I just dont get it. I dont like the way the forum is categorised and there doesnt seem to be much going on yet everyone always says its awesome. I think I must be doing it wrong.

There is always a lot of new stuff on SELOC. The only downside for me is that it can be very cliquey

Best place to start on seloc is seloc chat, events and technical discussion. Chapmans Arms is an acquired taste for some, but like The Lounge on here I guess. Think of seloc chat as general gassing but largely Lotus based smile

I have been noticing how quiet it is on here lately. Not really worth looking every day. I do like SELOC. There is lots of crap to trawl through but there is also lots of good stuff as well.

The stats tell the story - PH has 211,734 posts in the Elise/Exige section. Seloc (Elise/Exige dominated) has recorded 4,318,547 posts covering 306,245 topics. Seloc has been going 9 years so an average of over 1,300 posts a day.

My motor hasn't been out of the garage for a while, I think everyone's busy :-(

I even had to drive my oil burning bus at the weekend because the back was full of DIY stuff......:-((

Other lotus forums are available, have a search on Google and you'll find one which suits what you're after I'm sure.

There is never anything new on Seloc and if you post something it gets slaged off because some local didn't come up with the idea to make the Lotus better.. It's just a bunch of cheap chumps puttin everything down... They never do anything new because they are all experts with degrees driving around in stock cars...What a joke...

If you wanna talk car mods go to www.Lotussport.org That's where the good, the bad, and the ugly are discussed openly without fear of pissin off the management...

I don't sense that TBH but then I think I have made about 12 posts in the two years I've been a member.

I'll check out that Lotus sport.org though! wink

I got banned from posting on SELOC because I didn't want to put my real surname in my profile; first I put 'Dontask' as my surname when asked to change I put 'Smith' then I got banned. I did say don't ask.

I have always been fond of the Lotus BBS, it was a brilliant source back when S1's were the majority. The archive pops up from time to time in search results and is still handy.

This forum was killed by Garlic's actions over the "car jumpers" issue. The real supporters of this forum were banned for critisising the mods who were breaking forum rules. The people who gave this forum momentum.

It makes no difference if SELOC is better or worse

Many people moved on and have not / will not come back. These were supporters of the BoLOCs "movement" which has also faded and is waiting to expire.

It is interesting that the reasons that Garlic banned people for and the actions promised were never carried out and it was through SELOC the jumpers were found and prosecuted.

Didn't get on with SELOC so never really got into it, but what you say there Ronin is absolutely spot on. Not just about SELOC users, but a lot of Elise drivers in general.

I get quite bored of the K-series debates, especially when the people bickering are the ones who take their beloved lotus (of any vintage) to a main dealer for an oil change. People 'know' everything there is to know about Head gasket failure, but don't know how to unscrew an oil filter on a k-series. It's mind boggling at times...

But then again, that's what happens when you take a pure bred light weight sports car (S1) and try to open up a new market of 'posers', who used to drive Porsches, but now have S2's and know squat about cars. Oh yeah, i have an S2, so obviously i'm not tarring all with some big fat brush !!

I'll check out Lotussport.org, Thanks. smile

Way too many aholes who frankly give the Lotus community a bad reputation, quite embarrassing.
I do however acknowledge the benefit received from being a member (10% insurance discount) & the fairly decent TechWiki page.

To be honest I’ve found most ‘one-make’ forums to be quite terrible, no matter the vehicle.
You end up with a group who are so biased that every other car is crap in comparison, a group who are single minded that any modifications can only be performed their way & finally a group who are fairly balanced who give & share their own experiences as advice.

I find Pistonheads to thankfully have more of the balanced group & that the Lotus section isn’t cluttered with page after page of crap to be a benefit.

Agreed, its the usual forum issue of the 'in' crowd, combined with people who's egos get somewhat skewed with online presence.

The Elise has always been an IT geek magnet, so its hardly surprising the forum head the same way.

Surely if some of us needs to know something re our car then we should just post here and keep asking 'til we get the info we need.

It tends to work for me on most forums I use for help with all sorts of stuff.

Surely we can figure it out between us.

I have no idea as to what happened in the past on here and also I have no hesitation using here in the future.

I'm fairly far from a dealer / indie so a forum like this is a great source of help to me.

I'm not a mechanic but I've managed to keep my Cerbera running well for nearly 6 years now with help from a workshop manual and help from fellow owners on PH so surely we can keep the better-built less-troublesome Elise, etc alive.

What do you lot reckon?
