Road rage... a warning!
Discussion
Hi guys n gals
:ranting:
Today was a write off thanks to a maniac attacking my fiance and her sister in the liz at a set of traffic lights last night - roof off. .Having cut across her on a roundabout he then pounced at the traffic lights 500 yds later. Threatened to "take the car off her". Grabbed them both trying to lift them out the car and then kicked a bloody great hole in the rear clam and cracked a couple more panels with his foot. My fiance was only able to drive off having to hit him when the lights went green and drove straight to the police station. I will leave the rant there as the investigtion is ongoing and he is wanted for ABH, Malicious damage dangerous driving etc
My fiance clearly shaken up relaxed with the new puppy, I took today off and it was spent with the police SOCO cameraman taking pics of my fiances injuries (cuts and bruises) and the damage to the car. Have sent pics to Sinclaires hoping they can estimate so I dont lose more time having to take it down there! It will cost me the excess and any no claims as well - fuming especiallly as the scumbag is local (police let slip) - she was only 500 yds from home!!!! (If anyone can host I have the pics of the car damage).
Anyway have posted on ph as I want some advice, where do we stand - he could still be driving round our local area - my fiance isnt keen to go out even with the roof on and especially not alone. Can I find out from the police what is happening or will tehy contact us? Are we going to have to bear the financial cost through the insurance excess and other expenses or will teh insurance company want to investigate as we have the details of the guy from his numberplate and he will cost them alot of money that they will want to recoup?
(Apologies not the most coherent set of questions)!
So remember everyone the liz attracts good and bad attention, drive safely, be alert and most of all always leave enough room to get away - as a result my fiance was gone as soon as the lights were green and the worst of the aggression was taken out on the car (if you had seen the head on collision that happened at the same junction 30 minutes later you would understand why she had to wait for the green light)!
Peace Stuart

Sickening story. Just goes to show what scumbags there are out there! Glad she got away okay.
I've just bought an Aerial Atom and on the insurance quotation I received for it, it includes road rage! The first time I've seen this mentioned on an insurance policy.
I guess it's an indication of the times we live in!

So sorry to hear of this, i had some guy chase me in the elise cuz i did cut him up a little on a roundabout but he followed me beeping for a mile n stopped saying he would take me on, and that scared the sh!t out of me!
The only way of claiming against the guy for the cost of the repairs is to sue him in the civil courts.
This is a bit of effort but might be done for as little as £80 depending on the value of the claim.
The thing is though, it is a LOT easier to win a civil case once a criminal case for the same thing has been proven (and found guilty). So my advice is push the police, you have a right to know how the investigation is advancing. (Hopefully you have witnesses?)
You can then either ask for a compensation order within the criminal trial (if they bother proceeding with it) and the mag/judge may award compensation but probably not going to be a great deal.
Or wait until he is convicted of the exact offence (mailicious damage to the vehicle) and then on the basis of this file a claim against him..
HTH.
(not sure what you can do in the meantime to make your g'friend feel safe out on the road/knowing he is about..)

I am sorry to hear your news. My best wishes to your fiance.
You have to push the police hard if you want a result. I would find out who is in charge of the investigation and also find his name and the phone number of his boss. Do not ever settle for the information they give you, push hard and ask why they are not doing this or that. Whenever you are on the phone make notes and chase them. If and when it goes to court make sure you have had an oppertunity to examine the evidence and talk to the solicitor. Do not leave anything to chance or to the "professionals".
The police are trained to offer sympathy and "understand how you are feeling" it does not make them your friend. If you feel that this is going off the boil and is not progressing well get the local press involved.
It will be worth it when the scum bag gets sentanced.

call the police and explain your fiance's concerns regarding this nutter having another go. they'll update you and let you know if he's been 1. found and 2. charged and if so you can apply for a restraining order to be placed on him. other than that i'm afraid there's nothing much you can do. (legally)
personally and i'm not suggesting this in any way but i'd be tempted to ask the police for his name (which they will most likely give you) find out where he lives (phone book) and while you go back to the police station for some further questions or other - send the boy's round to visit him and have a little word! remember to tell them to let him know that he's getting a shoeing for dating so and so's daughter or something totally unrelated to you and your fiance.

Hi everyone, thanks for your kind words, will cheer the missus up when she reads them tonight. I am at work today so info is patchy but I believe they have identified him and he is being arrested or coming in voluntarily this fternoon - if he doesnt show the warrnt will be issued.
Fiance just back from giving statements to investigating officer with her sister so its all progressing rpidly assuming he doesnt go awol before this afternoon. Police have been great and seem to be have some critical mass behind the investigation.
Will post an update this evening......
Ninja - As much as I agree he must pay I will wait to see how the judicial process performs....had it have been 5 years go you would be reading about a revenge killing on the front pages this morning
not this post! Thankfully its not and I will now see what my tax ££££s pay for.
Plus I wouldnt post ny intent here.....lose the surprise!
Rob did the photos get through?

that's awful and must have been terrifying - all the best to Dominique and her sister.
You didn't say what you think set the whole event off? Whilst I'm sure there are a few random absolute nut jobs around who would just do this for kicks (this wasn't near High Wycombe was it?!) it's more likely that something happened first...?

Roundabout discipline or lack of. Aggressor cut across front of Dominique when she ws already on the round about and passing his exit. Its the exit from a Tescos and even buses dont like braking there so everyone tries their luck. She hooted and broke haard skidding behind him. At next set of lights he just got out of car and the rest is history.
Round our way people resent seeing a young girl in a nice car, makes them feel inadequate...who knows wht sent him off the edge!
If I was to speculate I would suggest drugs or alcohol or both hence an even bigger desire to get him off the road!

Just a quick update for everyone. Scumbag was banged to rights at 16.00 this afternoon. The streets are safe again until he posts bail. Insurance company proceeding without issue so all ok there it seems.
What a world we live in....thankfully this sort of thing is still pretty rare
Take care everyone
